My own view is that Hodgson should not have made Sterling's request not to be selected public. Hodgson could have just benched him easily and then like he did brought him on for 30 minutes. No big deal. No one would have even batted an eyelid. there was no need to inform the press.
It appears that there was no such request. Just a 'i'm not feeling 100% boss' type of convo......Agree that anything like this should be kept private. It's pretty much obvious to everyone inside and outside of football except for Roy. I wonder why?
He needs coaching in how to handle the media. The bloopers are just adding up and up. Didn't he just say Rooney couldn't address a room full of people with his scouse accent
The kopite baloney bandwagon rolls on.... How can you have 2-3 days rest when the International schedule is for games on a Thurs / Sunday? or Fri / Mon like last time? They had to have a training session on the 2nd day otherwise they'd have been going into the 2nd game without having done a stitch on the training ground post the first game. I assume when you lot have a CL game on a Tues after a PL game on the Sat, that Rodgers doesn't have his 'quick players' doing anything between games then???? Absolute horse s**t
You appear to be another uneducated, old school buffoon who is completely unfamiliar with the concept of 'sports science'. So you think all players should train alike, at the same time? Training plans shouldn't be tailored to individuals? But you must be right of course - Sturridge has stayed relatively injury free for a while because he has 2 days recovery period BEFORE going into a full training session (that's not to say he doesn't train at all) but the moment Roy trains Sturridge on what should have been a recovery day, he gets injured. Tobes and Roy Hodgson are the masters of the physical body, let us bow down to their training methods as they are clearly successful.
I'm not biased against Rooney, and I can tell you he's been ****e since 2006 in an England shirt 2004 was his peak for England, but unfortunately he got injured, and then he had a couple of good seasons after with Man Utd. He's firmly on the downhill path though. Save-able free-kick aside, Rooney's performance was full of running, perhaps passion, but the only thing he did of quality whilst he was on the pitch was a diagonal pass to Sterling on the edge of the area. For someone who was turned into a poacher for a season, he ain't half sub-standard at finishing. It might not even be hyperbole to suggest my nan would have scored 3 more than he did vs Estonia. Still can't quite figure out what he is either... He used to be a bulldozer of a forward who'd set-up goals, but no longer has that zip... As stated Ferguson used him once as a poacher, but he looks unsuitable for that role now... He's been played RW, LW, AMC... What the **** is he? A midfielder whose sponsorship package dictates he plays upfront and gets the odd goal? Before anybody says it, define "World Class" as getting into an overall, world leading 11, or amongst the subs. Rooney wouldn't make the reserves = not world class
There are different types of sessions though Tobes. There's no doubt that it's a juggling act for all concerned but there is definitely a science behind it that cannot be argued with.
I was being sincere. No wit at all there fella. Looks like the wheel's spinning but the hamsters dead with you
Oh come on, Tobes. It was a dire performance given the supposed gulf of quality between the two teams. Of course he needs to deflect from his own inadequacies, they have been evident for a long time, and he's fully aware of the rising dissatisfaction with his tenure. England are winning, but look at the quality of the opposition, the Swiss apart, and more importantly, look at the level of performance. Incidentally, you know the football world has been turned on its head when we're underdogs to Switzerland. We were crap in the WC and still are- any decent opposition is going to highlight that clearly. Anyway, despite the efforts of the anti-LFC visitors to this board, this is not about Sterling and Rodgers - it's about Hodgson. It's about his tactics on and off the pitch, and his relationship with his players, media and clubs. England's current players are never going to be good enough to win a serious competition, but they should certainly be good enough to knock seven bells out of the likes of Estonia. The reason they don't is entirely down to the management, and not because one admittedly talented individual throws a sicky. So, as I said earlier, I look forward to seeing all those currently exonerating Woy because it's a convenient way to have yet another go at Liverpool, affording him the same leniency in future when it's their turn to be shafted.
Well said. At the end of the day, Hodgson is a footballing dinosaur serving up a dogs dinner of a team performance. Tobes, you're making assumptions. You may well be right but you could equally be wrong, Sterling has been educated about his body, how and when to train, when to rest when you're tired. How do you know that he wasn't using this to simply protect himself? Remember, he's just seen Roy **** up Sturridge in much the same way.
