Loved the sketch where the Gumbies attempted to perform Anton Chekov's "The Cherry Orchard". <laugh>

Although I agree that we should wait and see, after hearing the recent noises, from Pardew, about Gosling, Ben Arfa etc being like getting new players, I wonder if we are being set up for very few new signings coming in, during this transfer window.

In addition, all of the strikers we have being linked with are moving elsewhere, and I fear that we may be left with a panic last minute signing, like Kuqi, just before the transfer window closes, Ranger and Best having moved on by then.

In such circumstances, sod's law would dictate that Demba Ba's dodgy knee would flare up, and we would be left struggling for goals, just like what happened to Alan Shearer the day after we flogged Sir Les to the Spuds.

Look at all the top half Premiership clubs and they will have at least 1 top class striker. The ones that don't are the ones who tend to be down at the bottom, struggling to avoid the drop. One one hand, I can agree that financial sanity is to be applauded.....but only if we stay up, and hopefully improve. On the other hand, if you pay peanuts, you tend to get monkeys!

Hopefully, these new guys will turn out to be great, but I remind myself that I had never heard of any of them before, and wonder why that is.

One final point. When AC was sold, we were told that all of the money would be invested back into the playing squad. I took it to mean that it would all be used for tranfer fees, not to include wages (NUFC are saving £1.5m per annum on AC's wages over the next 5 years) and even the undersoil heating at the training ground!

Whilst that may be a very good thing, it's not what AP and DL promised. I would like to trust that everything Ashley does is for the good of the club, and that what we are told is the truth. However, in the light of previous porkies, I can't help being a little cynical.

    The quote from Llambias was...
That could mean on anything from the tea lady to the undersoil heating on the training ground. I just think we're over analysing things there's 2 months of the transfer window left who knows who will become available, if we haven't signed anyone else then, then by all means we can complain but until then we have to just wait and see what unfolds.

The quote from Alan Pardew was "There will be £35m available and all of it will be spent..on fees and wages"

Another quote from AP on the 2nd February 2011 was "I want Joey to stay...and that goes for all the other players, like Andy. They are not going. We want them to stay here, and that is something that we're working towards."

Yeah right, Alan. Does anyone think that the club are really working towards keeping Joey Barton? Quite the opposite is clearly the case. Now I know that there may be various reasons for that, but for my part, I wish that for once we could accept as the truth what we are being told by club officials. Pardew is a football manager, not a spin doctor, and I wish he would stop acting like one.

As per my comments on other threads it's about the quality of the signinings rather than the cost..... would you have the signings we have or swap them for, say an Owen and Boumsong?- no brainer me thinks.
The time to judge will be on 1st September.

  7. Remember we still owe Ashley money, better to get him payed off as soon as possible mate. If we sign two more quality strikers and hold on to the players we have now, i'll be happy. I don't care if we spend all the 35 or not.

Shush. The transfer window has JUST opened!

I'm trying to work out if this is the return of WinstonChurchill from the old 606.

The "cold harsh reality" is there is nothing to be ****ing complaining about. The transfer window is open for 2 months still and we've made 4 good signings, for very little money.

I wish you and all the other wittering old bastards would stop looking for things to complain about.

I'd say us and the Mackems have actually done the best business so far, if anything you should be looking forward to seeing our new signings play and discussing their past achievements, fans of other clubs have no signings to talk about, we do.

What are these guys going to be like when they genuinely have something to worry about, because if they overreact like this now then heaven help them ...!

Fans of other clubs have worse players than us too! <doh>

I know, that's a fairly common defence mechanism, I stuck by it for ages in life (not just talking football) but you have to accept that failure is part of life too. Hope for the best and be ready to accept the worst, it's so easy to be pessimistic but it gets you nowhere.

I'd think it'd be better if we got one more striker and possibly another backup CB. After that, hopefully any leftover money will go towards paying the debt we owe MA
