    ........ at Bolton!

I'm a bit surprised when the likes of Alan Irvine stroll into a PL job tbh.

Maybe says a lot about the perception of Scottish football.....a guy who has managed in the Champions League you would have thought would have aimed higher?

I think he'll do well, good place to start in England, if he does well PL clubs will be watching.

I think he's decent enough but I think Bolton are in a bit of a state & competing in a very difficult league.

I can't see Bolton in the PL before his contract's up tbh.

be very tough for them Smug, the debt they have simply isn't manageable they can only tread water and hope they stay at Championship level to stave of closure, it's that bad down there.

Baffles me, as even when they were an established side in the PL they never smashed out massive fees, must have gone crackers on the wages or something.

Shame really as it's a decent club and we used to get a few points off them!

It must be agents/fees/wages I suppose.

They're no different to the likes of Swansea in stadium/support/Europe etc but they're in huge debt and could plummet.

It amazes me that clubs like QPR, Hull etc don't look at Bolton and take a bit more care.

Probably cos the **** hasn't hit the fan quite yet.

People will write off Bradford etc as they went daft after staying up and gave average players like Wetherall etc daft money, Bolton didn't visibly make these mistakes but their debt is the biggest of all, bar Fulham, who of course could write there's off easily with the value of Craven Cottage and it's land.

You do wonder how managing directors and owners can **** up so badly to rack up hundreds of millions.

    Ashley has the job sussed.

He'll risk relegation by selling their best players knowing they can come straight back up if the worst happens.
Newcastle's gates will remain similar and the parachute payments will cushion the blow.

Any occasional trip to Europe will keep the supporters believing he's actually interested in their club.

Its a a good move for him.

Championship is a good league, certainly above the current SPL.

My opinion of the ginger twat has gone up.
