Go on Andy. Scumthorpe fans are so deluded its hilarious. They genuinely believe their club should be challenging for Prem promotion.
Obviously, I don’t see Scunthorpe play, but this seems harsh to me. He took them up, after a dreadful start under Laws and even broke some sort of record. Like a lot of fans, Scunny fans are truly deluded. They’re punching above their weight being in Division 3, in my opinion, and there’s a good few bigger and equal size clubs to them in the Conference.
Seems harsh to me, he got them up last season and went on a record of 26 unbeaten games as new incoming manager.
Plus they sold their top scorer Winnall to Barnsley. Seriously doubt some of the comments about Scunny fans being deluded. I work with a fair few and they know who they are and where. No delusions of grandeur at all
Driving home from the Palace game we listened to Radio Humberide and one of their fans phoned in saying that Wilcox should go - he cited the fact that fans had to wait in the rain after the Exeter game until they could confirm that they'd been promoted. His view was that promotion should have been achieved earlier and the fact that it wasn't wasdue to WIlcox's inadequate performance as a manager! Unbelievable! He'd taken over at a low ebb and dragged them up the league to automatic promotion and still they weren't happy.
It’s a tough one to truly measure. Their fan base is what, a few thousand regulars? So knowing a handful of them at work is but a tiny sample. My notion of them being deluded is from their forums. This isn't the most reliable either but I suspect it to be a wider sample than yours and from what I’ve read, they have, by and large, wanted Wilcox out for a while when he nearly won the L2 title with them last season. Taking that into account and if you accept this as a sample that has some validity, you have to conclude that they’re unhappy with Wilcox for on or off the pitch reasons. I have not read nor heard any off the pitch problems, so I’m surmising that they have a problem with being near the bottom of League 1. Which you can then contrast with my suggestion that they’re deluded as they’re, in this day and age, dead fortunate to have a team at that level. Admittedly, I don’t watch Scunthorpe, but from the outside it doesn’t seem justified.
This is the kind of view I've read when I looked in at their forums. Every club has the deluded and the idiots, but the view on Wilcox seemed systematic. Maybe their silent majority are all pro-Wilcox, chuffed to be in League 1 types, but are keeping schtum.
To be fair the Scunny chairman sacked Brian Law when they where 4 points behind the leaders. He seems like a hatchet man.
This could be Daws big break, really hope it comes off for him. Could we see him asking Brucey for a few favours? Loan window is still open, could give Max Clark his first competitive action. Actually, Dawson managed the stiffs for a while, so he'll be very knowledgeable of our youth set up.
I heard that also, seems bizarre any true supporter would be happy to do that. We limped over the line against Cardiff and had to wait 15 minutes to find out whether we had got automatic promotion, you didn't hear any complaints for us.
An utter disgrace by Peter Swan(chairman). ffs, it is only early october with over 30 games to go. An injury list from hell also. He should have got longer imo.
Surprised Nicky Barmby hasn't thrown his hat into the ring ??????????/ He was 2nd choice for the Carlise job apparently.
Well in my opinion I find it unacceptable that the game they were waiting for to finish went on 10 minutes longer than Scunthorpes game and Wilcox deserves the sack for not ensuring Scunny's game lasted an equal amount of time.
