"Mady Touré has plenty to be proud of right now, even if he can be prone to a spot of hyperbole"

“Of course I am very proud of Sadio. But he is not my player. He’s my son,” Touré said. “I’ve known him since he was a kid so to see him doing so well is fantastic. Today we talk about Messi and Neymar but honestly I don’t think these players are as good as Sadio Mané."

Spot of hyperbole might be a bit of an understatement :D

“But I’m sure he will not spend too long at Southampton because there are lots of clubs in Europe who would like to buy him".

Sadly this is the way of the world, there is always a bigger fish. The good news is; if we sell him, it will hopefully be because he's been amazing, the offer was too good to turn down and was right for the club.

It's something we are probably going to have to get used to, but hopefully it will make us attractive to these type of players. And we have the money to take them.

Would Messi or Neymar have missed that sitter at WHL?

This is for me is a key sign of our progression. For several years now our academy has been the destination of choice for many youngsters. In more recent years we have started to show we can hang on to them too (Lallna, JWP - even Shaw stayed longer than the Ox or Walcott). Now the club is becoming a good shop window for young talent developed elsewhere. As we consolidate our position at the top half of the table, we will start to see them stay longer too - seduced by the prospect of European football. It makes our Euro qualification this season even more important.

Possibly. Had he scored we would be raving about the pace of the build up. In real time it was an awful miss. Watching it a couple of days later, it seemed like the sort of miss anyone could make - but you hope doesn't :)

“Sadio refused to play because he wanted to leave and that’s when Southampton came in.

Don't like that bit. Hope we get a good season out of him as he seems to have little loyalty. In one way I actually have sympathy for him...after all, he has come from a poor country and I suspect that affects your decisions.

The face-clutching dive a few minutes before the miss wasn't great either.

I agree with Qwerty, Sadio's diving and histrionics has to be coached out of him as it will become embarrassing to the club if it continues

I'd rather it was toned down rather than coached out of him. He will win a lot of penalties and free kicks in dangerous areas. We are too honest for our own good. Other teams con the referees - if you can't beat them join them.

Nothing wrong with that but you have to give up your right to moan when it goes the other way. Really my objection is mainly practical - it's going to take refs about 2 weeks to spot what he does, and he'll get bullied to pieces by defenders. Hopefully it was just a one off (the Arsenal penalty was perfectly timed skill).

Same with Shane Long. I think we could be watching a lot of "running into the box then falling over" this season.

I too have some doubts about Mane and his long term commitment to Saints. I have watched his goals on YouTube and noticed how on a number of occasions he ignored his team mates after scoring - there is an arrogance about him that makes me think he might have believed he was so much better than his team mates...

There are similarities with Louvren who infamously played the same game with OL as he did with us and its not dissimilar to what Mane did at RB Salzburg...

    Hope I am wrong - as l usually am!:emoticon-0101-sadsm

Could be, but at least he has some experience. Playing Gibraltar on Saturday so that should get him off the mark for the season (and on to about 6).

Agreed, but I must admit that, during the Arsenal League Cup game, his little jump into the penalty area to totally sucker punch Rosicky into fouling him had me grinning. The team that effortlessly falls over had been effortlessly taken for a ride. :)
