Midfielder desperate to stake his claim if called upon. Scott Wagstaff is desperate to take his chance in the first team â if selected for the Johnstoneâs Paint Trophy second round tie at Cheltenham Town tomorrow night (7.45pm kick-off). The midfielder was a regular in the team last season but has been forced to play the waiting game this term. Manager Steve Cotterill has selected the same starting XI for seven straight games, owing to the teamâs terrific form: unbeaten in eleven league matches and top of Sky Bet League One by four points. Wagstaff has no qualms, telling Bristol City Player: âItâs been difficult personally not playing games, but the boys have been excellent and itâs understandable that the gaffer hasnât made changes. âI just have to bide my time, along with others, and take any opportunity that comes along. âObviously you want to be playing games but youâd never hope for the team to lose. Weâre all part of the squad that is doing well at the moment. âIf I was to do well then others would want me to do well, just like I want the lads in the team at the minute to keep the run going. âItâs a great place to be at the moment. Everyone is very together.â He added: âI want to try and impress the gaffer, but that probably goes for a few of us. âWe know we have to put in a good performance and secure a good result. Itâll look bad on us if we get a chance and donât put the work in. âWe want to win as many games as we can.â Read more at http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20141007-waggyprecheltenham-2003965.aspx#hkHreSA05Qy4g1KD.99
I hope he and the rest of the lads who are picked do well. It will give confidence to us around what we have as backup. We may need to call upon him and his buddies' services at a later, critical stage in the season.
Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær were bit part players for Man U in 99 but they are now legends at OT
We have had an unchanged side for 7 games and apparently there are one or two knocks anyway. It would be unreasonable to keep the same side for too long and a low key cup game is an ideal time to involve others. Yes, they did not take their chance before, so hopefully there is a lesson learned for them there. I still think winning the LDV cost us promotion in 2003. A day out a Wembley is nice but the last 2 times I went there with City (Old and new stadiums) it ended in disappointment. Promotion has to be the aim, and if we need a play off place, well we can look forward to a Wembley day out then.
'he worked hard tonight' - completely agree. He ran his nuts off to be fair but he never 'achieves' anything. He runs up blind alleys going forward and as a defender - sorry, but he hasn't a clue.
