The guy in the costume Roary the tiger has retired from the job. He's had this to say on Facebook. Steve: "No, it wasn't actually Allam. To cut a long story short. The club was not happy with my comments FB and thought they were derogatory. I had a meeting , then afterwards I resigned. (I have been the mascot) 12 years, All 4 divisions (home and away), championship Play off final, FA cup semi final and final. 3 times the Most entertaining mascot at the mascot Olympics, countless charity fundraising events, presentations, numerous fun runs up to 10k, and even wedding receptions. In all those 12 years I missed no more than a handful of games. During my time as Roary, I hope I had actually made a difference, raised some money for various charities, made a few people laugh and brought a smile to everyone's faces." His final game in the job was the West Ham game the other Monday night.
Was this the same Roary who got in trouble for getting pissed up on matchdays missing various kick offs and the occasional journey to away days?
Whatever the reason it's a damn shame, 12yrs is a worthy stint and deserves recognition; we've all laughed with and at him and he raised decent dosh for good causes. is Brady applying, now that could provide real entertainment! :
I've met him out of costume on matchday and he's a bit of a prick. He genuinley thinks he's as important as the players, swanning around like he's a somebody and not just a twat sweating in a tiger suit.
That was an ordinary bloke called Steve wearing a suit all along? To say I'm heartbroken to find that out now is something of an understatement.
