Can you just back my claim up by the way that Arsenal fans dont think Clichy is all that? I do feel for you mate, I honestly do. All though on a brighter note looks like you have got Gervinho, wouldnt have minded us getting him And let Cesc go, dirty little Barca whore
You need to slap yourself in the face! Newspapers said we were interested in Young and Jones. Here is a nice link for you: http://www.footballtransferleague.co.uk/newspaper_statistics.aspx 33.2% is the highest success rate with transfer stories amongst the papers, and the NOTW has over 6 transfer rumours per day. The fact you take this as gospel means i'm not sure if this debate is worth having any more. Sylvain Marveuax: âI was in contact with Liverpool too. I was really close to signing for them. The story about the medical is not true, only a rumour. âWhat happened was there were some changes in the contract from the first time we had a discussion. Suggests I am right re Marveuax. Believe the rags if you want but i prefer to deal in fact, it saves on clean pants. Not trying to be harsh mate but we need to stop this panic-mongering.
Its not nailed on that Young will win a Premiership medal next season, its not nailed on that Man United will win the premiership next season.Man United fans are the only ones that think otherwise.Unless they improve their poor central midfield and improve their abysmal away form, they may not.Hernandez who in my opinion was the difference between 2010 and 2011 may also be found out in what is known as ''Second season syndrome''.The Premier League is a competition and is therefore competitive.Man United fans have yet to grasp this. They think they have a divine right to win it every year. They cannot take the fact that other clubs are competitive.Whether it be in the league or whether it be purchasing players. If they buy players its ''good business''.If other clubs or managers do so they are called ''Cheque book managers''.When in fact, they have a manager that invented the term ''Cheque-book manager''.Alex Ferguson between 1986-1991 broke the transfer record twice. He broke it for a 3rd time in 1993 too. My belief is that if you stand still, you get left behind,It happened to Liverpool in 2009,and it could easily happen to other clubs.Man United included.Have they improved their squad?I don't think so.I believe to some degree they have in fact weakened.Van Der Sar and Scholes have retired, and Van Der Sar has been replaced by a 20 year old with no premiership experience and Paul Scholes hasn't been replaced at all.Ferguson has made two pointless signings in Ashey Young and Phil Jones.Ashley Young is no different to what he's already got,and Phil Jones is also no better than what he's already got. Kenny will make signings with a reason for every one of them.He will sign players as Damien Comolli has said ''tick all the boxes''.I personally can't find fault with any of the three players they have signed thus far.Andy Carroll is a player type that only Chelsea have(Drogba) and he's 33.Luis Suarez has been a revelation with his work-rate and mesmerising trickery.Man United fans on this forum have admitted they were surprised at how he took the piss out of their defence. He as Foredeckdave recently said ''makes the impossible look easy''. Jordan Henderson who has of yet to play for the club, adds something that Kenny likes and that is pure energy and covers lots of ground.Steve Bruce said so himself. He's not a work-horse as such but he does offer lots of endeavour. If the other players that are signed are up to the standard of the first three, then I will be thrilled to bits.I'm still 100% convinced that there will be more signings, more necessity signings of course.
That's a ridiculous method for calculating transfer accuracy. If a Newspaper put 3 different articles on it's site, one claiming Liverpool were interested in Wickham, one claiming Sunderland were interested in Wickham and another saying Arsenal were interested in Wickham then they all put official bids in, the player chooses Arsenal, the newspaper would only be 33% accurate according to that website.
Yes but how else are we meant to qualify the correctness of this 'interest'? Probably the best we can do in the circumstances. Perhaps this from last summer is a better example: http://www.empireofthekop.com/anfield/?p=19711 "Since June 1st, 99 players have been linked with Liverpool and 7 have signed up." Even allowing for the fact Konchesky later signed we are talking about a worse than 1 in 10 signing to rumour ratio. That also doesn't include the S*n. Even being extremely generous and saying the media get it right 50% of the time (so more than the percentage you just scoffed at), that means we went for 50-odd players and signed 8. Do you honestly think last season we made a serious effort to sign 50 players?
Skrtlels nips. Don't ever mention that newapaper on these boards...its a banning offence on this board. If you edit your post and mock that scum rag, then all will be forgiven
No. We tracked a lot of players for all sorts of reasons. Tracking costs us nothing and is no reason to get stupid over fees and wages. We looked at his medical and we set a financial level we were prepared to accept with the risk. You surely don't think we should've just spent whatever, despite what the medical staff said once they'd had a chance to take a proper look? So how much should we have gone to on fee and wages based on what we know?
The articles don't say "Liverpool are going to sign X" though. They usually say "Liverpool are interested in X". It wouldn't surprise me if top European clubs scout over 200 players a season, so us being linked with 99 players isn't all that surprising.
I could tell from afar that Marveaux was a crock, I hardly needed to be a medical expert to know that he would have medical concerns. And these are the same medical staff as the ones that let Aurelio back on a full time contract instead of on pay as you play even though the previous manager had released him because he wouldn't accept a pay as you play deal and he wasn't fit enough to justify giving him a full time contract.
Good points Raaaul. However, this might simply be due to these players not being our top targets, therefore, we are not prepared to offer them what they want.
There's a big gap between clubs scouting players and it being reported in the press. Also it clearly says those players were linked since June 1st and hardly any of those linked played in the World Cup so they are hardly on about the players being scouted as there's no way to watch them. They are therefore surely claiming we are actually looking at signing the player, which is no different from what they have done with the players you believe we 'missed out on'.
Quick let's sign you up to head our medical team! Fortunately we have people who are qualified informing these decisions. These are the same medical staff that led Benitez to offer Aurelio pay as you play, it was only Hodgson that decided to interpret this advice differently, and as we all know he got nearly nothing right. Furthermore injuries do not necessarily recur. If the medical team examines him and he's fully fit then surely that's good enough, rather than writing him off as he's had injuries before. Also on account of the fact he was injured all season why would we have given him a medical before anyway, surely it makes sense to wait til the end of his contract coincides with his recovery and do it then? Does the fact we signed an injury-prone player under a different manager and owners mean we should do so now?
Jesus you are such a ****ing ****** there's no point debating anything with you. You actually believe that we had no interest in Jones and Young, if we miss out on Adam or Downing you'll claim we weren't interested in them either. I'm off to watch the tennis in peace.
You have serious comprehension issues and seem to be more emotional than a teenage girl. At no point do i say we weren't interested in Young or Jones, and as for Adam and Downing well that hasn't even happened so has no worth. My view is maybe we bid for Young, maybe we spoke to him and he wanted to Utd, maybe we were never willing to meet Villa's price, maybe we were interested but he wasn't our first choice target, maybe Kenny has been having a romantic affair with him and our transfer plans are in ruins as Kenny sobs himself to sleep. Point is you don't know, and you are taking people outside the club, whose job it is to sell papers and sensationalize things, as official word. These Newspapers etc. you treat like some kind of transfer Bible named a minimum of 91 players we wanted to sign last summer that we didn't sign. Surely a huge proportion of them we never even bid for, so i'm saying that there's no need to panic that we've 'missed out' on all our targets as chances are some of them we weren't in for, or weren't particularly interested in anyway. I'm also pointing out there is absolutely no fact to your arguments, and given the reputation of the media i'm actually taking things with a sensible pinch of salt. I don't think i'm the one who comes across as a ****ing ******.
Maybe, you are not that attractive right now, and Players don't want to sign for you. Maybe it is just that simple. I know some of you think I am a WUM, I am not, I simply maintain that once you are out of the Big Time, and that is The Champions League, you only have one option if you want to land the best Players ; Throw so much money at their Club that they won't let the Player even talk to anyone else. And then... Offer them so much money that they can't say no. $Mega will be needed at Liverpool to move the Club forward far enough.
Mate, we are attractive and i'm not wearing my LFC rosy specks A player has a chance to join at a time when we are beginning to hopefully rise again, with KK in charge and new good owners (not seen anything bad yet) to be part of something that will be exciting and a challenge KK will get the players, if they dont want to sign their loss, simple mate
Almost all arsenal fans want him to go, there is a lot of frustration with the current squad and their endless capacity to make the same mistakes and Clichy is one of the prime culprits. That said he is more often than not a good player and if a team can get him back to the level he was in 2006-7 then he will be the best LB in the prem. I wish him good luck.
DR4ARMS You know when you hear a Former Player say it's a short career and they should get as much money as they can and play at the highest level possible? And you, like me and everyone else screams at the radio "F~~~ Off With That Short Career Sh~~!" Well, we are talking to ourselves. The Best Players want £'s and Pots, NOW! 'Projects' are for all the others.
