An empty clubhouse and changing rooms at Hull City’s former Centre for Excellence complex in County Road North are set to be demolished.

The site in west Hull was used by the club until earlier this year when it moved its youth academy set-up to Bishop Burton College.

Now the club has been granted planning approval by Hull City Council to demolish the buildings.

In an application to the council, it said the move was necessary to reduce the risk of vandalism at the site.

The cleared site is expected to be grassed over in the short-term.

In its application to the council, the club also said it had no immediate re-development plans for the land which lies opposite Cropton Park.

The playing fields and clubhouse were bought during the regime of former City chairman Adam Pearson from Hull-based bathroom manufacturer Ideal Standard in 2005.

Ideal Standard had owned the site since before the Second World War, using it as a recreation ground for staff and their families.

It's a shame really as it had a good setup with everything you could need for an amateur club.

The only problem with that is that traffic on County Road at rush hour is a ****ing nightmare and a half, and boshing a housing development next to it would make it even worse. It's already total gridlock at five o'clock.

Looking at how i wrote that, its all a bit sus. A tranny, whilst wearing what some would call kinky gear, driving in, and having it away. But you know what i meant.

The County Road will be designated by Sport England as a playing field area. The only way to get a planning application to develop the site would be by designating a similar area as substitute playing field. Anyone know where there might be a few acres available? Maybe Melton?
