O'Tigers Fill it with bars that do cheap drinks and shots (Corky's, Sourz, Guiness on tap) and play ****e gyppo music, with extra strong uv lights to radiate heat and deliver a tan, the place will be bustling with the Irish before you know it ploughing their hard earned into the local economy.
I'm not all that bothered what they decide to call it as long as something is done, investment is made and Hull moves forward instead of only talking about it. It has gone beyond farcical all this talk of regeneration and its still the same old sh**ty Hull in places. Anlaby Road was going to be regenerated, a hotel and casino built, Castle St hasn't move forward one inch except for fancy drawings of what it MIGHT look like and not WHEN things will start. Grand plans are made for a super link up from Liverpool to Leeds ffs what is it that leaves Hull out yet again? Princes Quay is dying so there will be no Princes Quay 2 and what the hell is that scaffolding doing round the building on Castle St near to Staples store? The paving stones and brick sets throughout the town area are death traps and what do we get? yet more pretty drawings of what might happen in Queen Victoria Square. As for the political side of things, it doesn't make one iota of difference who is in power Hull remains static except for the odd bits and pieces, I'm resigned to the fact that I will never see the advances I have seen in other towns and cities replicated in my own home city.
The building in the scaffolding is the old Earl De Grey, which obviously died when everything around it was knocked down, I think it may be a listed building.
It is, I think. It's a bit buggered being where it is - even if it could be brought back to its former "glory" (which presumably would cost a small fortune), I'm not sure what you could actually do with it with it being in such an isolated position. I suppose it could be adopted into the Castle Street development somehow, but as what? There's another building on the corner next to it which is also scaffolded up I think? Not sure what that was.
Actually, I've just checked on Google Maps and it's that building on the corner that has the scaffolding on, the Earl De Grey is just boarded up. I suspect they're just leaving the Earl De Grey to rot away, once it falls down, they don't have to worry about the issue of it being a listed building. The corner building would probably make decent residential, it's a nice building with it's own car park, as long as the residents don't might a bit of traffic noise.
They can do clever stuff with triple glazed glass nowadays, though there's still a chance the whole place might shake a bit.
That's the land that's been earmarked for the planned conference centre and 4 star hotel. So it'll get flattened.
I just asked my Dad, who is responsible for most of the regeneration in Hull, he says that the Earl De Gray is a listed building but it's the ground it's on that's stopping it from being demolished. He didn't expand further. Maybe somebody else knows?
They looked for the parrot when they resurfaced the road as people were saying it had been buried in there. As for any listed buildings, the Civic Society are unlikely to object. I think there are already plans in for Princes Quay extension that were put on the back burner until a firmer decision was made on the new road.
Ah well...the vagaries of coming from Hull. That noise in the background is my dog fetching my rolling head..
no problem with this name change , though any outsider coming in asking where it is will be met with puzzled looks and probable confusion that all of Hull is Kings Town .
I like you happy, I just don't like your opinions. Keep up the good work you generate loads of other peoples opinions.
