That being the case, surely they shouldn't be nicking anyone for doing 33 either? A mate of mine contested a 33 in a 30 in Hull and was told that though the machine was set wrongly and shouldn't have issued the ticket, now it had been issued it had to stand as 33 was in excess of the 30mph limit.
Have you ever met anyone who has NEVER exceeded the 70mph speed limit on a motorway? Either they can't drive or they're lying.
I thought the 10% bit was also to allow for speedo error. In the near future with GPS plod may decide the margin of error is no longer needed and the 30 limit will be exactly 30. As a little side note, in the small print of my car owners manual there is a bit about data logging and its accessibility by " the relevent authorities "
Speed limits are set in accordance with where they are, whether we agree with them or not is irrelevant. If you get caught speeding you have made a conscious decision to exceed that limit so really can't complain when we get caught.
My friend got done by that exact car, it's ridiculous, there seems to be more police around South Cave recently. There were a load last week as they thought that stabber from Beverley Rd (in Hull, not S.Cave) was there. Turns out he wasn't and they all left. The annoying thing about the police in South Cave is, they sit at the points where the speed limit just changes from 60 to 30; if you have to brake really hard suddenly you're more likely to cause an accident for the simple matter of not getting a speeding ticket. The worst bit is, the haulage trucks and little **** boy racers that fly through the town at 50 (including the ****er in the DHL truck that nearly killed me) all do it through Market Place, so why don't they move there and nick them instead of people who just didn't slow down in time to enter the village?
Many moons ago, I got done, as did others in a queue of steady moving traffic doing about 35 in a 30. We'd not long since paid when they upped it to 40.
Absolutely my point. The real irony is, if it's pissing down you can go as fast as you like, the coppers never stand outside with a speed-gun if it's raining.
What have laws in different countries got to do with it? We're talking about breaking the law in the UK. You might as well complain about being nicked for carrying a handgun and then say "well it's legal in America".
If it wasn't a conscious decision then you need to pay more attention of the speed your traveling and the speed limit on the road your travelling on.

You will never get nicked for doing 33 in a 30 or 77 in a 70 as the police & cameras allow 10% for speedometer accuracy. The rules are that if you are doing the speed limit + 10% or less it's OK If you are doing 1-4 mph over that 10% ie 34-37 in a 30 you will generally get a speed seminar do more than 10% +4mph over the limit & you will get a fine The other thing you should remember is that areas where there are fixed or may be mobile camera sites are clearly marked with big white & black camera signs, the cameras are bright yellow & vans have large red/orange stripes on them. There also need to have been a number of RTI's at a site before a camera can be located there (I didn't use accidents as I was once told there are no such things, there is always a cause & something/someone to blame so incident not accident) As has been said, if you obey the limits (agree with them or not) then you won't get a ticket. When I see a camera sign I set the speed limiter on the car to the max speed util I'm 400 metres past the last sign
What a stupid comparison, we're talking about what is a reasonable driving speed on a motorway and I'm pointing out the speed limits in other mainland European countries, which are directly comparable.
Look at the camera on the flyover near Hessle road. What other reason can there be for putting it there but to make cash. It's like shooting fish in a barrel unless you stop looking at the road and just stare at your speedo coming down the hill.
The law states that you are supposed to have reduced your speed to that shown at the sign before you reach it, not that as you pass it you should suddenly brake to 30
See post #41. And the RTI's justification is bollocks, they locate mobile camera's anywhere they like, I've never known of an accident at that spot in South Cave and I've lived locally for 20 years.
