He’s not good enough for the Premier League. Sunderland fans didn’t rate him, Cardiff fans didn’t rate him in this division and now Palace fans seem to think he’s **** too. He was available for about 800k in the summer yet the clubs who actually came in for him for him speaks volumes about his ability. He’ll be playing for someone else next season, probably a team who comes up for one season. He’ll then move on again as the **** Premier League team journeyman he his, before ultimately becoming a journeyman of the divisions below.
What he should have done is sign for a newly promoted club when he was at the peak of his powers about 6 years ago, maybe a club where he was then appreciated, and build on his growing reputation. Oh, wait.
I counted 4 instances of him deliberately kicking out or 'leaving his mark' on our players in the first half alone on Saturday. He never used to be like that, just seemed wound up. I found it odd, and I think he played particularly badly as a result. Then he got a yellow, then he got subbed. He's better than that, but for some reason seems to be regressing.
"Back on track, £7m for Campbell is a damn good offer which I'd accept if Berbatov is wrapped up. I'd be guessing that Ferguson would sooner play Ronaldo upfront when he is fit than Campbell and in the long term Manucho and Welbeck (looks a mix between Henry and Berbatov and last season could have started against City at 17) are both rated more highly. I do think Campbell is a decent player but one that won't end up better than the Agbonlahors of this world." To be fair to him he was largely right, but seeing Manucho in there made me smile.
I'm not really fussed one way or the other regarding Campbell, I used to be at one point, I would have loved him here, and I'll never forget THAT cross to Deano that played its part in elevating us to our current position, however we have long since not required the services of Campbell, and ironically I now feel that WE are out of HIS league, that may or may not be true, however that's the way I feel. Regarding the cash machine post, it's hardly concrete evidence that he made that comment is it, maybe he did, maybe he didn't, personally I don't care, Saturday was much more important to me, we made a player that we once thought of as instrumental to our ongoing success look ordinary, that was very satisfying. He would appear more suited to a team like Leicester or Palace, and since he's at one of those clubs he's probably found his level.
He looked unfit and overweight to me on Saturday, his star has certainly fallen just show's how quick things change in football, almost 6/7yrs since he was with city and still not what you'd call established E.p.l. player.
Says the club who still give Yann Kermorgant stick for not converting a penalty years back for you. The stick Campbell got seemed to throw him off his game a little, benefiting the team, that's good enough reason on its own.
