Ok there were a couple of dives there over a whole career, on a video made by a guy with the name CR7whatever. Fair enough. Don't forget, not that I want to pick on him as I like the guy, but Altidore looked like a very competent, prolific striker based on YouTube videos, as did Scocco. When I've seen Messi he's always been honest, unlike the majority of Barca. He's certainly less of a whinger/drama queen than Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is the glory boy, Messi is the team man. Compare them when they play against stronger opposition than the lower half of the Spanish league.

Do you think he will make it TT, or will bigger cheque books prevail.?

I have seen a lot of Messi and there's no doubting he is a brilliant footballer. <ok>
I just found your putting him up for sainthood amusing. :p
He can put himself about, he also lashes out with niggly nasty little kicks that have his fans up in arms when they are done to him. Ronaldo does this too. :)

He isn't averse to spitting at the opposition too, one of my personal pet hates, worse than a punch in the gob to me.

For me Ronaldo just edges it. I don't think there's a great deal in it however, if you swapped nationalities I think Argentina would have won a world cup\coppa America. Messi has never done it for the argies having a lot
better side where as Ronaldo drags a sub standard Portugal through games single handedly.

Not putting him forward for sainthood, just saying that he doesn't dive and doesn't bitch to the ref at every opportunity. Not saying he never ever has just that he doesn't make a habit of it.

As for the spitting thing, the videos I've seen confirm nothing, footballers spit about 264 times a minute for some reason so if somebody had an agenda then they could make a video where it looked like a spit was aimed at someone when it was just aimed at the ground.

Don't get me wrong though, intentionally spitting at someone else is f*****g disgusting and if I believed Messi was spitting at people that would change my opinion for sure. I just don't see any convincing evidence.

Absolutely 100% mate, he wants to come home.

He'll either come to United or be forced against his will to stay at Real Madrid, teams like City and PSG can forget about signing him, he loves United.

The Messi/Ronaldo debate is probably the most common debate in all of football and one you'll never get everybody to agree on.

If both players were sent outside to kick the ball against a door, Messi would stand 3 feet away from it, kicking the ball against the door all day long and never missing, Ronaldo's first attempt would be on the sprint from 40 yards away. It's just what you prefer to watch, a metronome on a desk or an all out explosive action movie.

We're blessed to see them both performing together in the current era, when they're gone we'll be talking about them for years, I wish they were both playing in the PL together.

Disagree here, but only when the pressure was on Ronaldo, which is really evident in the last few world cups/euros.
The Spanish way of playing really suits the burst pace of Messi and Ronaldo. Would love to see them both in the premier together but I cant see them knocking in the goals as much as in la liga.

"All out explosive action movie" more like Behind the Candelabra, the movie about Liberace.

It would be great to see them both in the Prem, it doesn't seem like Messi will ever tear himself away from the teat of Barca though. Not sure if he's playing it safe or if he just loves it too much to leave.

It's not MORE like it though is it?

You seem determined to highlight Ronaldo's 'pettiness' on the pitch, crack on mate.

Ronaldo said he'd never, ever stop until he's the best. This year, he's the best, absolutely no doubt about it.

Not sure the league tables agree that he's the best.

For me Messi anyday over Ronaldo.

Over the last season and a half since Messi's injury, have to give it to Ronaldo, but over their respective careers Messi for me

He's the best alright, certainly this year. I just see him as more of a Liberace character than the dashing action hero that you do.

We're talking about individual merit, such as his Champions League winners medal, the records that he keeps breaking, the 17 goals in 9 games to Messi's 7 goals in 9 games.

By your logic the best player in La Liga in 2013/14 is Diego Costa.

Yeah I'm picturing the way you think of him as being like an Errol Flynn type who twirls his moustache and makes all the ladies weak at the knees.

    He's a brilliant player but I think he's camp as ****.
More Julian Clarey than Errol Flynn.

I can just imagine him standing in front of the mirror every morning, talking to himself.
    'My, you are handsome!
    ****ing orange Tango man.

If he hasn't had a polis's helmet up his ring piece I'd be amazed.

Think of how you would think of Kevin Phillips if he'd scored in a Champions League final against your bitter rivals, then you went on to win the trophy.
