Good for you Swords - when you are next over I would encourage you to introduce yourself to everyone at the Crown & Sceptre before the match and perhaps join the group for some post match celebrations at the Coningham Arms - I'm sure everyone would be delighted to meet you. You might even get interviewed for an IndyRs video vox pop episode, that I certainly wasn't expecting last Nov 23rd. I certainly enjoyed meeting everyone with Finglas kindly making all the introductions for me and it was truly a totally wonderful day in my life that I will cherish forever. I am sure that my flamboyant, more extroverted French Acadian wife would indicate to you that I tend to be more of the stereotypical reserved "British" type, but for that day in London I totally let myself go with the flow and am so glad I did. Before my meet-up with everyone I took in the stadium tour, that I would highly recommend, and before that I did a walk around the Loftus Road perimeter streets, where I met up with a kindly, now elderly 87 year old gentleman & widower, whose mother grew up on the same street where my Grandfather was born (Hethpool in Paddington, near the canal). He used to run a hire car and when I met him he was slowly walking from Ellerslie Rd to Bloemfontein Rd, where he still kept his old hire car parked in a rented garage, so he could turn over the engine. He also had a nice story to tell that related to the 1967 League Cup Final at Wembley, when his family got a real surprise when they were given unexpected match tickets. One day, despite my current severe financial limitations, I would love to make it over for another game and meet up with you too Swords.
^^ That's the reason I'd best stay anonymous. A lot of headers on this site. Imaz would probably be hiding in a bowl of rice ready to pop a cap in my arse
Fingy's paranoid, COL is angry, Nines is talking out his shi*ter and Killy talks to random octogenarians while rambling the streets. In short, there's something wrong with everyone on this thread... ... except me
There's obviously a serious loss in translation between you and I and it has always been thus. I was joking back!!
Well Swords, I had a really nice chat with him and we could really relate to one another, given my own family's association with the neighbourhood and club - I even took a photo of him (with consent) on Ellerslie Rd where the entrances to the stand seem to go between the houses built on that street. Probably made his day too, it really added to mine - he seemed quite lonely - I was happy to hear about his life. I guess you would have likely walked right on by him.
Dont go in the Conningham mate, most R'S gave that up as it became apparent they were "passing the plate around" Suprised some on here still go there !
Well, last year after our 1-0 victory over Charlton, thanks to Charlie's crackerjack of a goal, I found the Coningham Arms a great post-match venue to celebrate our victory with the Irish R's. Pre-match we were of course at the Crown & Sceptre. I rather liked the blend of visiting both local pubs. "great local, but don't expect clinical appearance of usual bush pubs. this one's down to earth and it's a hoops pub. chelsea stay away, we hate you. some great characters frequent this and the other two local pubs known as the Shepherds Bush triangle (only problem is the Adelaide is now a gastro **** hole with more staff than customers)" http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/55/5533/Coningham_Arms/Shepherds_Bush
You did indeed mate, fair play to ya. My apologies, I can't even remember. Yesterday was a very long and emotional day. I owe you one.
Yes Kilkburn, always been a Ranger stronghold and was always my first choice. Like i said, things changes and because if what they were doing a lot of Rangers stopped drinking there...esp when it became the "fishbowl" Each to thier own, just thought I'd let you know
Care to explain? "passing the plate around" - donations for some cause? recycling uneaten food back to customers? 'fishbowl" - the new pub look after extensive renovations? passing the plate around to help pay for those renovations?
Passing the plate around was for the (Irish) cause. Dont want to upset anyone here with relation to this as we have a lot of decent Irish guys that post. they will alll have thier own opinions and we shouldnt make this a political thread. Def not to pay for the renovations mate
