I cant speak for Arsenal fans but personally, what I would have done differently if I was Wenger....to change the outcome....is got myself another job that isn't manager of Arsenal FC, and helped the board appoint a competent manager who utilise the players you have (some of which are f**king great players), makes them train in a way that doesnt leave them dropping like flies with injuries 6 games into a season, and actually signed good players in positions you needed strengthening in (ie DM and CF), instead of crowbarring a gazillion players into the team who all play AM and attacking Winger roles, then you may win the league <ok> Oh and then playing them out of the position for which they are best suited...<ok><ok>

    Thats just me though

When pressed for a proper response, there is complete silence from Not PC.

Dishing out meaningless soundbites ? putting words into people's mouths they haven't said ? Trying to start an argument where one doesn't exist ? He does these things well.

Being able to give a detailed response about the actual football, tactics, players, positions and how he would like to see things improved ? not a chance.

I think its because he has stated, a million times, that Wenger, as long as he is your manager, WILL NOT do any of the things that anyone here could suggest, so its pointless.
Or maybe hasnt a clue....I'm not sure.

Reasonable answer, thank you. I would argue with most of it, set up to counter the opposition? if you are good enough you let them woory about you.
All top managers play people out of position if they think they can do a job for the team there.
You missed Alexis out when you spoke of last minute bargains.

Wenger has done an amazing job over the last ten years to keep you where you are in a very tough league, I think he deserves a couple more years to reap the rewards for his hard work

These are only my opinions and count for nothing, i am only putting a view forward.

I'm guessing that you're not a gooner, so naturally you'd want Wenger to stay, weaken the competition a little. You cynical genius. Spuds really are getting smarter these days.

Let's see what he would suggest those tactical, positional and player changes should be rather than what other people have suggested.

This tirade of 'Wenger is ****' is meaningless unless you can back it up with details of a different approach to the game. And again I don't just mean sweeping generalisations, I want details from a footballing perspective.

So far the silence suggests that he hasn't got a clue.

Not really, he is not a professional Premier league manager.
Thats like saying you cant call a player **** unless you could play better, which is frankly ridiculous.
The last ten years have shown Arsene isnt the man to take this club forward....at first there was the whole "Oh he'll be fine when he has cash to spend" which I personally was dubious about but considered it a valid point, since Mourinho (and subsequent CFC managers), SAF, LvG, Mancini, Pellegrini, Hodgson, Dogleash and Brenda all blew huge wads of cash in the last 10 years compared to you guys, I took into account that until Ozil, your record signing was less than £20m........

So he was given a purse to spend, and what happens, you finish 4th again.........same as you did when he was spending nothing.
It might be too early to say this season, but I honestly cannot see Arsenal finishing any higher than 3rd at best. And thats if United, Everton, Liverpool and Spurs all play like **** (this is assuming, as everyone is, that Chelsea and City will occupy the two top spots).

Alexis wasn't last minute. Top managers don't buy a massive range of CMs so they're forced to play them as wingers and have a distinct lack of DMs available in a formation which relies on a DM. Nor do they go into a season with 2 CBs. As for "if you are good enough you let them worry about you," I don't agree at all. Mourinho & Sir Alex, the two best managers of the last few years both set up to nullify the opposition's best player(s) and exploit their weaknesses - to fantastic effect.

Once the money became available he bought Ozil, the next year he bought Alexis, Debouchy and Welbeck.
Would you advocate that he bought 6/7 players in one window like Spurs, United and Liverpool and then face a season of integrating them, or do you think maybe one or two at a time and maintaining top four whilst the quality of the the team and squad improves may be the better idea?

    Drivel.

You've just created your own arbitrary criteria for what makes someone's opinion valid or not. Just because you want something and aren't getting it doesn't mean you can conclude that what NotPC is saying is meaningless.

Are you saying that no-one is allowed to think a manager is not good enough unless they have premier league managerial and tactical abilities themselves and can explain in detail what that manager should do to improve?

On the contrary... what I'm getting from NotPCs posts is that he's insinuating that he thinks Wenger is never going to improve and will never change anything. And after the last 10 years I don't think that's an unfair assessment. Which therefore means what's the point in postulating in depth about what Wenger should do when it's patently clear after 10 years that he isn't going to (or can't) do it?

But it's pretty clear cut to most that the team haven't improved. That's the point.

He could buy two world class players a year for the next decade and we'd still finish 3rd or 4th each season playing the same possession football and rarely ever beating top sides.

Not at all. What I'm asking is for is some footballing details about how Arsenal could do it differently. Because for somebody who accuses others of going silent when it comes to criticism and saying 'they support wenger blindly and without criticism' 'they don't want what's best for Arsenal', they 'don't know' and 'don't care what it entails' he does a Houdini act and disappears when somebody asks him for details about what he would do.

There seems to be a lot of people answering for him. Revealing that when he's actually asked a question about football, it goes silent.

Unless it's just 'Sack Wenger and our problems will be solved'. Let's hear some details from him about how and what things would improve us.

and let him answer, instead of trying to cover up for him.

I think there are two main criticisms of Wenger to be made.

The first is that he doesn't bring in the players needed to address the squad's weaknesses.

The second is his appalling record against the other top teams in the league, which appears to be the result of his tactical approach to these games.

I personally think the first criticism is inarguable. Let's face it, Ozil was a luxury signing. What most people thought we needed last summer was a top defensive midfielder and a top striker. He failed to bring in Suarez and Higuain, or a top DM. This summer, again, what most people thought we needed was a top striker and a top DM. Wenger brought in a top winger and a striker that had become fourth choice at United.

What else could Wenger have done? I would argue that the approximately £70 million spent on Ozil and Sanchez would have been better spent on say, Bender and Higuain. These two signings would have directly and immediately strengthened our two weakest positions.

The second point is less clear.

No one on this forum is a qualified, top flight football manager. As far as tactics go, we can only discuss and argue about what we see on the pitch and listen to the opinions of professionals. It has appeared that Wenger's approach to big games against skillful and tactically aware teams hasn't differed drastically from his approach to any other match. Evidence of this is the way we played away at City and Chelsea last season where we played very open and got punished on the counter attack by world class attacking talent. Admittedly, at Chelsea on Sunday we played far more tightly, which was the sensible approach.

The other aspect is his utilization of players at his disposal. Ozil is a number 10. I don't think many managers would put him out on the wing to make way for Wilshere. This is connected to the first point; if we were already well stocked in the attacking midfield department, why did we spend £40 million on Ozil in the first place? The battle was lost on Sunday in midfield. Wenger says that the financial power of Chelsea was the difference between the two teams. However, if the money spent on Ozil was used to bring in a top DM instead, it is arguable we could have stood up to the physicality of Chelsea and fared better.

The other main point on this issue is what all managers should be judged by: the results. At the start of this season it was P15 W1 D1 L13 against the other members of the top four over the previous 5 seasons.

What else could Wenger have done? He simply could have won more games!

I would argue that if Wenger had become manager in 2009, he would have been sacked by now. It is the profound respect he commands for his previous success and the stadium move that gives him a pass that other managers would not enjoy.

For these reasons I say, with reluctance and regret, Wenger Out!

Piskie, the issue is, can Wenger take Arsenal forward onto challenging for the title and champions league? We are now a team that should be challenging for the biggest honours and after bringing in two big world class players, clearly shows that we can match the best in the market. But you, as well as most of the others in the forum, see that Wenger has serious limitations in the tactical department, as well as buying the right players when needed. I personally believe that his once progressive footballing methods on the pitch are now old ideas and need of change. He needs to be able to change according to the opposition, he shouldn't be afraid to change tactically or bring on a sub during a game. We may have got more consistent against the lesser sides, but is that down to Wenger's excellence, or is that down to a better squad? Are we good enough to challenge the best, of course we are. Our squad is a great deal better than what it once was and the strength and depth in midfield and forwards is better. Other teams with similar quality to ours - Athletico/Dortmund is evidence enough that when you have the right manager in charge, you can win the biggest honours against the very best.

    Against Chelsea

Did we really do anything radically different against Chelsea? Apart from a few tweaks, we didn't do anything earth shatteringly different. Yes it was a better performance than last time, but we didn't exactly threaten Chelsea much either. How abouts doing something totally different? Give Maureen something to worry about during the game? I would have played deep, and used our fast players Sanchez, Welbeck and OXO to break at them at pace, counter-attacking only to begin with. Maybe drop Ozil for Wilshere as our primary CAM as you know that Maureen will have Ozil heavily marked. Play Flamini and Rosicky as deep lying midfielders to break up play and mark Cesc out the game. Invite Chelsea out to attack us and commit. Spoil their rhythm and aim for a bore draw. At least if you're going to lose, you'll make it hard on them, we had hardly any shots on their goal, talk about making it easy for them. Wenger is set in his ways and his ways are not good enough to beat the best.

Suker is completely right. PISKIE and many others have conceded that they can't see Wenger winning the title again, so what's the point in keeping him? He simply isn't up to the task.

When this whole debate arose early on last season I said wenger would be given another contract to give him the opportunity to have a to with our improved resources. He was a big part of us getting to where we are at as a club and now the financial restraints are lifting I knew the club would give him his shot.

He signed a 3 year contract at the end of the season. And I highly doubt the board have any intention of getting rid of him before then. He provides such stability that he is the dream manager for most board of directors. In business you minimise uncertainty and they know with him the minimum level he will achieve even when being outspent by rivals. So I don't see them losing faith in him, particularly if he is able to add further silverware.

Right now having just added two trophies his job will be incredibly safe.

When his contract is up he will be 68 years old and I think it's highly likely that is when he will step down. He signed a three year rather than his usual two year extension and I think that is with retirement in mind.

He's done a lot for this club and shown us great loyalty during our difficult financial period to not jump ship to the multiple top teams that have been interested in him. And I think the club will show him the same loyalty by giving him the next few years to cement his legacy.

With that in mind I just think it's pointless to whinge about wenger out, he isn't going anywhere at the moment or in the foreseeable future. In a few years time we will have a new manager and a new era at arsenal. Until then by all means discuss his short comings but the constant calls for his head just damage the feeling around the club which can't help the players.

All good points and a lot that I agree with, one person is conspicuous by his absence though.

Ask him a question about Football and Vamoosh, he's gone.
