Didnt see a hand ball...we hit the post and they cleared a soft looping header off their goal line and we had a couple of good breaks.
    We kept a clean sheet.
    We pressed their players better.
Ade could of had a penalty.
We had a few other very good attempts on goal
The team played well overall including ade, lamela, erikson and chadli.

All this against an inform southampton that have won 6 on the trot including at the emirates

They missed a sitter and lloris made 2 very good saves.

All in all the positives far out number the negatives so people feel content.

Spurcat makes a good point about where the goals will come from...guessing that the midfielders are going to have to be our main goal scores.

You're right. This board can't handle any sort of cautious optimism, best bring us back down to earth.

Thought we played quite well,it's slowly coming together how MP wants us to play, still toothless in front of goal though, badly need a goalscoring striker, ans stop the silly mistakes in defence,Hugo had to make a couple of important saves from miskicks and the like from our defenders

    Yes tots I agree.

Vim, I'm just being realistic. IF it was a handball then the goal shouldn't have stood, IF not then cautious optimism is right. Was it a handball?

I'm just looking for confirmation whether or not it was a handball.

I thought Spurs played quite well in a counterattacking style with Adebayor holding the ball up and Lamela and Chadli getting forward quickly. Eriksen looked good when given so much time and space by Soton. But it seems that you rely on different players chipping in with goals as there is no goalscorer in the team - not sure that is ideal. And like Utd, I thought your defence went missing at times, but you were fortunate to be able to rely on a top class 'keeper.

Doesn't look it to me. Not blatant anyway. No one appealed.

This content requires an adobe flash player of 15.0 which I can't download Inda but thanks anyway. I'll take your word for it. So the ball was chested then ok, good stuff. If we were to lose away 0-1 and the ball was handled immediately prior to the goal we'd be shouting 'Lucky" "Illegal" and "Should have been 0-0" wouldn't we so for me it cuts both ways. I've said it before that a handball goal etc does not show good form which is what I prefer rather than luck.

Keeper doing his job Luke, good saves, easy saves, they all count. He's on form, that's all.

Everybody is saying that Ade played better yesterday ,but and its a big but he doesn't look like he's going to do what he's paid for - score goals!
Its all fine to have a high work rate but in the end if you don't stick the ball in the net or be in the right place to do it - never going to happen.
As others have said give Kane or Soldado a try.

Adebayor's getting some stick at the moment, but I think that the problem is a lack of service and support, rather than any deficiency on his part.
We still haven't quite got the balance of the team right and we look at our most threatening when we're on the break. Our final ball is letting us down there, too.

I'm starting to believe that we may need to either use Eriksen in a deeper role or play more of a 4-1-4-1, something which I wanted to see last season.
The amount of times that someone gets into a good position out wide, puts in a decent ball and there's nobody near it is just silly.

As for the decisions in the game, the worst was clearly the Bertrand over-the-ball, studs up foul that left Naughton injured.
That was at least a yellow and probably a red, but we somehow ended up getting a throw-in out of it. <doh>
I can only assume that the ref didn't have a good view of it, but the player had a lucky escape. I hope we haven't lost our second right-back to injury because of it.

  13. We have a couple of goal-scorers in the team, just no strikers.

Really important result.. Important because of the position we put ourselves in but going into a game like City away it's great that the players can go in with no pressure on them. The media were really starting to turn on us and write us off too so the timing couldn't have been better for us to beat a side that they couldn't praise enough.

I can understand Spurcat and others saying that Southampton were average but when a team plays very well against us(like West Brom) we don't give the team an easy ride so I think it's harsh to take anything away from the result we got yesterday.

One thing that did really piss me off yesterday was Soton's players tendency to fall over at any sudden contact, many of their players were constantly dropping to the ground once a bit of shoulder to shoulder barging occurred and some seemed desperate to trip over any tackle. The ref made it worse as he was clearly falling for Soton's antics. I know this seems to be a common occurrence in today's game, we've had players who'd happily fall over in the past too but this was one of the worst cases I've seen from a whole team for a while.

I really don't know if Ade handled the ball, my stream for the game wasn't of the highest quality but they didn't mention it in the commentary. But it wasn't mentioned on MOTD either and I assume it would have been spotted and mentioned if he had handled it, because it was such a major moment in the game.

I was preparing myself for a loss against Saints, so the win was a very welcome surprise.

They would have been up for this game, what with the way in which most Saints' fans view the situation with Poch, and that made the win even more satisfying.

I can't see many teams taking points off Saints this season, although I do think they will drift down the table and settle around 8th spot.

What was that you were saying about fortunate to be able to rely on your keeper? <whistle>

So your overall judgement of the team as a whole and how we are progressing all relies on a microsecond where a ball may have touched Adebayor's shoulder or may have been a couple of inches lower?! Cos if it did touch his shoulder then optimism is justified and if it didn't then optimism is not justified?

(I hope to God I never have to rely on the ability of a jury to consider evidence rationally and follow arguments).

That last save from De Gea was astonishing. They should bring back save of the season. Hugo will get into top 10 as he makes many great saves, but that effort from De Gea would win hands down. Unreal.
