Arsenal are reportedly interested in launching an unlikely move for Manchester United's utility man John O'Shea. The Gunners are eager to secure defensive cover as they prepare to lose Gael Clichy to Manchester City for £7million, and the versatile O'Shea is being considered. Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill is Arsene Wenger's number one defensive target, but it remains to be seen whether he will be prepared to meet the £17 million asking price. Republic of Ireland international O'Shea, aged 30, has been told he can leave Old Trafford this summer after 12 years with United. He has batted away interest from Sunderland, but is said to be interested in a move to London. O'Shea was originally intended to be a makeweight in any attempt by the Red Devils to bring Samir Nasri to the club. But Arsenal could now pursue their interest in O'Shea independently of the Nasri deal, since they don't want to sell the France international to a top-four rival.
