Right, today is 1st July, the first day when free agents are now officially "free agents". From today anyone can join on a free, so hopefully Norris will be on the Pompey OS shortly holding the new shirt!

But who else will be joining, as the transfer market free for all has now begun?

    Any takers? Any guesses?

There are plenty of appealing players that have been released, but wages will always be a stumbling block if we go for Premier League players.

I will probably get absolutely ripped apart for this, what with his Southampton past, but I've always liked the idea of Kevin Phillips in the Championship. His career goalscoring record is impressive, wherever he has been. I know he's certainly not young, and perhaps the fact that his last 3 clubs have been Villa, West Brom and Birmingham suggests he isn't keen on moving far, but on a one-year deal could he be the poacher that a creative midfield could feed?

I cant help thinking that someone with his experience and composure would have put away a good portion of the chances that Nugent missed last season....

I would not have said this this time last year, but I have complete confidence in SC and the only time I've second guessed him was with Webber's exit. Suppose he knew something we didnt.

I'm surprised we haven't had the confirmation about Norris yet...the silence from FP is deafening! I don't think I can bear the tension anymore. WE WANT NEWS!!

I don't think the lack of news is necessarily a bad thing.

How many players did we miss out on or how many transfer fees became inflated, just because Milan Mandaric and/or Harry Redknapp couldn't wait to get their mugs on Sky Sports News to spill the beans instead of keeping their gobs shut until the deal had been done?

We will get news - when there is some!!!!

They aren't going to tell us
    "We are chasing X"
    "We hope to sign Y"
We are negotiating pay with Z"

and let ever other club know what is going on and getting outbid.

Most likely rumors will come from agents trying to stir up a bidding war for their client.

Patience is the name of the game both by the club and by us.

Great to see you here Jack. I was a bit worried when I saw you post on 606 that you were going to 'hang up your keyboard' when it closed. There are quite a few of us old hands on here now so you should feel at home:emoticon-0162-coffe

    Hi Devon

Just need to post a view now and then to keep up with things.
As you say there are quite a few of the old guys around and it seems a good discussion forum now.

We need to keep going until the team pick up again though like me you've seen it all before

Now that the pompey website has confirmed the Norris transfer as official, what are the chances he will be made captain. For me, it should still be Lawro just for his sheer passion alone, with Norris deputy.

    Theres so much leadership now!

I would have thought you have had plenty of good news over the last few days. SC looks like he is making some very good signings for you.

Remember Rome wasn't built in a day except it isn't Rome you are having to build more like the whole of blooming Italy!

Is that for real? Some of the chatter in Bristol is that they'd rather keep Hendo than Jamo. Good news for us then.

What has happened to Greg Halford and Brian Howard - any news/rumours on them?

Well it looks like we're on our way to building blooming Italy!!!:emoticon-0103-cool:

Well he was third choice at city but they offered him a new contract, so obviously rated him. He's young, represented Rep. of Ireland through all the age groups. Could give Jamie a real battle for that No. 1 jersey in next few years hopefully!
