No, that's the tedious moaning of someone who barely posts on the Saints board, but makes a habit of just posting on the oppositions board during games - tells you everything you need to know (particularly when he was just listening on the radio, so I'd ignore him too).

You deserved that win today - in the first half you looked like a Pochettino team for the first time since he took over. We're not too downhearted because despite not playing well, we weren't too far behind you, and if Mane hadn't made a pigs ear of his chance we'd have taken a point.

No matter. Good luck for the season. Looking forward to the game at St. Mary's - should be spicy. Nothing bitter about Saints fans right now, we're doing just fine thanks.

The mods will no doubt duly note that lest it becomes a persistent occurrence.

Yes. But we need to see it for 90 mins TBF.
The whining that the Soton game ran out of steam all last season after 70 mins etc because of their squad
will not wash at Spurs. And the boys were quite often second best when it came to controlling/retaining the ball
during the MF pressing game melees.

Haha, please come on our board to point that out - we have some people that think you dominated the midfield and that Wanyama (the main reason you didn't) should have been taken off at half time.

No worse critics of a team than their own supporters. :D
Wanyama was ok. Lucky not to get a card for repeatedly clocking up non-serious fouls
(ref was quite poor on who got booked for what and when) , but did a fair spoiling job overall.

Yeah, he perhaps should have been booked for persistent fouling, but that's his game - breaking down opposition attacks by hook or by crook. If anything, the players that let us down today were our creators - Schneiderlin, Tadic, Mane, Davis - our destroyer and our defence looked pretty solid. Surprised we had more possession against a Pochettino team as well, but then it depends what you do with it. You used yours better than us today.

  9. Yes, I said we'd win, too.

I also predicted this to be the start of Saints' slump down the table.

It's been a good ride for you boys, but I'm sure most of you knew it wouldn't last.

You should be happy with a 50% hit rate then :)

I will probably get pelters for this, but I still can't see where our goals are going to come from on a consistent basis and if we continue to make basic errors at the back, then the number of clean sheets we keep we will be able to count on one hand. We were sloppy at times in all areas of the pitch and some of the erratic passing is so frustrating.

I thought Southampton were average today and I am not convinced we were a great deal better. But a win is a win and a clean sheet in the PL should never be sniffed at. The results have been disappointing this season, even Poch admitted this in his programme notes, so the 3 points are valuable, and in fairness, there were several of our lads who gave decent performances. I am satisfied, but still not convinced.

Nope, there are others who have similar concerns.

I stated the beginning of this month to be a fair time from which to start judging Pochettino
on whether his so-called "philosophy" is being drilled into the squad (and thus played on the pitch) .

So on day 1 of this period we had the 1st 45 mins played in that manner.
Still some way from a 90 min performance though.

I see what you are saying OS but for me it was the relief of seeing some pace and pressing added to our game. I think we have to expect mistakes at the level they tried to reach and when you have quick fluent moves it always jars when a pass goes astray and brings it all crashing down. If they persist with it they will improve and as rapport is built up it could become an exciting way to go.

As for goals, get the ball in their box often enough and goals will come. I look at today as a start.

Good win today, both teams weren't at their best but played well enough and we deserved the 3 points.

Some good performances from Lloris, Rose, Kaboul and Capoue, with the latter probably being my MOTM.

Only worrying bit for me is similar to what Spurcat said, it's a bit concerning to see where the goals are going to come from. Chadli and Eriksen aside, no one else in the league is looking good enough to test opposition keepers, Kane in my opinion really deserves a chance at leading the line in the League now, he's scored in pretty much every Cup game this season and surely Poch has to reward him sooner or later as Ade isn't doing enough and Soldado has looked anonymous. But with that said, the football is slowly improving so here's hoping more chances open up and whoever the striker is can bury them away along with the supporting midfielders.

Loved Kaboul's passion at around 85 mins, was on the LW (don't ask lol) and after the ball went out of play he turned to us in the Park Lane and got us going with his gestures, patted the badge too - which I'm not usually fond of as players do it too often but Younes has been with us for a good number of years now so it's clear his affection for the club is legit.

A good 3 points against an in-form Soton, happy days.

I think we'll score as long as our buildup is quick enough, and we press near enough our own goal for the most part that our forwards get runs into the penalty box before defenses have time to settle. The high tempo produced a fair amount of mistakes on both sides but also made it "tight, fraught and percussive, a good advertisement for Pochettino ball." Ade and Eriksen scored often at the end of last year, Chadli is scoring now, Lamela scored in preseason and has six assists this year. I was particularly pleased to see us not f around at the edge of the box. Players generally tried to shoot or cross ASAP. My concern is that we keep building from here rather than stepping back into another awful performance as against West Brom. Also, the habit of taking the foot off the gas after taking the lead, even though less marked this time, will continue to cost us unless and until we can start killing games off.

I may have been more impressed with Chadli than I've been all year, he won a lot of balls and had some effectively entertaining touches. It was good to see Eriksen back to firing shots and crosses from the edge of the box on the left, where he was so effective last year.

I don't know why so many are so pleased with this. I didn't watch the match as I was out but if it's true Ade handled then the goal should not have stood. 0-0.
