Nah, I was on Ectot, thought Taghrooda would run big though, different class of animal to Tapestry, proved that today I think. Lucky my Treve bet was online because I might have ripped it up otherwise.
Taghrooda - I know not done any favours by the wide draw but I still think has the class to go close and with 4 places on offer then I will be having a play. Treve - I cannot get away from Treve, won so impressively last year, thing's have not gone to plan so far this season but I think today you will see a different horse and this will be by main bet of the day, and at 8/1 that will do me. Not bad 1st and 3rd !!. Think it must be the first Arc Winner I have found! Thought Treve was mightily impressive today,
Just watched the full replay myself. Hate to criticize jockeys but you are quite right, Toppy, an absolutely dreadful ride by the rider of Harp Star.
Very selective Boris with your Treve quote I see! What about the 'the colt will devastate them' one Ectot nowhere, nowhere near good enough! A lot of rubbish spouted about him! I also would have ripped up my Treve docket too if I had one, your not alone on that.
Are we being a little too eager to welcome the return of the champion? Was that a great race? I doubt it. You've got a horse who's been in and out all season winning. She's a good horse on her day but that day, this season has proven, can be few and far between. Flintshire a strong second. Flintshire for Christ Sake. An Oaks winner in third. Some of you love her but i don't. The form of the Oaks hasn't staked up this year even though it was a visually impressive performance. The Leger winner is next. That was an average race this year. His second in the Derby hasn't really worked out. The Japanese horses haven't been given European rides and were always facing an uphill task. Dolniya was 5th. I backed her but purely because of the weight she got and the draw. She's not done anything of real note at the top table this season. The other placings aren't out yet so can't comment on them. It's easy in hindsight but i'd hugely disappointed that Coolmore didn't throw Australia into the mix. He probably would have been in the mix if he'd had a fair draw.
was tongue in cheek beefy, i wrote her off pure and simple and your right about Ectot, not good enough he didnt settle at all during the race which didnt help
Astonishing race-riding from the Japanese- TWELVE horses wide in the home straight Harp Star! Jarnet kept it simple as per last year, well done to him- he is a good jockey.
Fair play Boris, I was being mischievous with that one! Me bad. I was completely wrong too, thought Treve had zilch, zilch chance but she's proved last year was no fluke. Classy, classy animal. Pity we both got 4/1 on her. Shrewdies
How right was Treve's trainer with the jockey call? The Dettori creature would never have pulled off that ride.
She murdered them Bob so the form of those behind isn't really that important imo. Taghrooda is a fair filly..nothing more and the hype surrounding her and the other 3-y-o's has been perhaps been just that? She had a chance to prove her last run "unlucky" and "below par" and didn't do that to my mind. I agree the fact that Flintshire finished second doesn't show those in behind in a particularly good light.
The million dollar question AR! You know the score yourself on that one on here- some will say this, others that. It's something of a pointless debate which I'll sit out. I'll do the sensible thing. I'll judge him at Ascot against Free Eagle, Cirrus and the Gatsby!
Because he's an incomp.................. ooops, I'm sure I have no idea what you mean Dex BTW I am in Instanbul and missed the Arc in favour of sinking a couple of large beers on the banks of the Bosphorous .................... what a city this is
He'd have beaten the hype filly anyhow on the old formbook! He's the last of the "golden generation" with an excuse yet to get buried...shouldn't be long!
I think sometimes arrogance just goes to jockeys heads which is why Spencer & Dettori for the last 3-4 years bar the odd wonder ride, have been atrocious.
Was a strange race I think, they were fanned out a mile wide in the straight, Harp Star should obviously have been in the places and she looks a top class jap filly, Taghrooda is a top class filly, the Arc was never going to be an ideal test for her strengths, Flintshire probably just had a nice trip. Treve is the best horse in the world, we thought that at the start of the season and she has finally proved it again. I think Australia might have been fighting for 2nd had he run.
