Heard some news at MP today from a source that is usually reliable, and it is that Patrick Roberts will be leaving in the Jan window, Liverpool the favourites, the stumbling block appears to be over the fee 6/7 mil with add ons which apparently is their offer. Fulham want 10 + and remain with he club for remainder of season Arsenal are also reputed to be making an offer, their senior coach has been reported to have said he is the most talented young British player since Gareth Bale. I must say that when I have seen him he certainly sends a spark of electricity through our forward line. I doubt if we could hold him for long, but if we sell, make it a good price.
Hmm. Just been listening to 5Live and the observations about Jack Rodwell and how his move to Man City did him no favours. Absolutely no question about Pat's talent and having talked to him a couple of times (not about transfers and albeit briefly) got the impression that, while he's obviously ambitious, he's equally level headed. Personally I think Liverpool at this time would be a poor move for him. Arsenal, better but ... !? Accept that things move and don't doubt your source, rosc, but just before the summer transfer window closed Sarah Brookes tweeted: Sarah Brookes@sarahbrookes1 · 2h @FreshEra @FulhamFC Pat is going nowhere If it does happen, then your right about holding out for a good price; and indeed with the proviso of him staying 'at the Club for the remainder of the season' ... for his own good as much as ours.
By add 8ns Rosc do you mean sell on clauses etc? Like Southampton getting a shed load when Bale went to Madrid?
*Pedant alert* Southampton didn't get anything when Bale went to Madrid. Tottenham bought out the sell on clause when Southampton were in financial difficulty. They got about 2 million from Spurs instead of the 20 or so million they would have gotten. Shame really for them. But that's besides the point. I get or sort of sick feeling when I see rumours of bigger clubs picking apart our youngsters but if we can get a big fee for Roberts with huge future fees depending on the lads success then it mightn't be the worst thing. Obviously I'd much rather him stay but the thing we do have at Fulham is a plethora of young talent so Pat leaving could open the door for the likes of George Williams or another youngster to get more first team opportunities.
Here's a decent piece from the Fulham supporters trust's meeting last month. It doesn't get specifics about players but clears up some of the rules about recalling loan players. We can call Stek back at any point if needs be. http://www.vivaelfulham.co.uk/articles/football-loans-and-contract-rules-deciphered-26-524.html
I think that reinforces what I said earlier. FIFA (& UEFA) treat international loans as transfers; to all intents and purposes, you sell the player for 6-12 months. We could recall Kacaniklic or Mitroglou (or Stekelenburg) in January if we have a recall clause, but I strongly suspect we didn't put said clause into the agreement. I suspect we do have a recall clause on Tunnicliffe, but I doubt we'd use it even if we did (he did not settle here, Kit or no Kit).
Stekelenberg is different though, we don't need to put the clause in as you can recall goalkeepers at any point. We certainly won't be recalling Mitroglou as we're well stocked in the striking department and having his wages off the bill is a positive but Kaca and Tunnicliffe might be recalled. If the manager in January (hopefully Kit) decides that we're left short in midfield and can't bring in the new players he wants for whatever reason, he may recall Tunnicliffe and Kaca. I know Tunnicliffe struggled to settle in London but that was during a horrible 6 months (football wise). He obviously didn't get on with Magath and I think anybody would struggle to settle when they have to come into work knowing they're not going to get into the first team no matter how well you train. It could be a whole different story under Kit. I saw an interview with Cillian Sheridan (Irish striker playing with APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus) about making the move out there and he said he struggled to settle until he hit a bit of form and "when the footballing side of things is going well then everything else falls into place around it". I wouldn't give up on Tunnicliffe just yet.
I don't think that is accurate FI, about the goalkeepers. The emergency goalkeeper loan is an FA thing, not an international thing - per FIFA rules Stekelenburg is not our player, until January at the earliest. You're probably right about Tunnicliffe. I am just not sure I want to risk any kind of disruption in our fragile but recovering dressing room. Just for the record, I know I am being harsh!
Ah you're probably right, I read: "What are the different rules relating to goalkeepers and outfield players regarding loans? A goalkeeper can have a recall clause exercisable at any time." and assumed it meant we could recall Stek, my bad. Regarding recalling Tunnicliffe potentially disrupting our dressing room, I can't see how it would have a worse effect than bringing in a new player. Surely the lads see a left back playing midfield and know we're short in that area and they'll know the quality that Tunnicliffe has.
You might be right with this, kunye, but I'll take it with a pinch of salt. In the past your inside sources have told us that Ruiz and Burn would be gone within two weeks (this July); that four top youngsters (from Roberts, Dembele, Grimmer, Brister, Hyndman and Jorenen) were about to leave (May 2014); that Dempsey out was 'a done deal' (Jan 2012), that Zamora was joining Sunderland and Duff Villa (Dec 2011) and that we were about to sign Charlie Austin from Swindon (January 2011). I'm not doubting your sincerity, just the reliability of your sources. Let's all hope they are wrong on this one too.
Speculation, gossip, views and opinions are surely what forums are about, true or false, as long as there is no malicious inference. As I am possibly gullible in believing duff information I am given, maybe before future postings I should have it checked at a higher level.
Absolutely right, kunye. I wouldn't want you to stop posting the things you hear (although if Kit was willing to confirm them first, that would be wonderful!) My point was merely to question how much weight we ought to put on them given the track record that your training ground sources have. Out of interest, was it a single source who gave you the previous stories, or did they come from a variety of people? If the 'news' of Pat's impending departure is from someone who gave you all or some of those, then I'd question whether he/she is 'usually reliable'. Training ground gossip can be accurate and a valuable early warning of something that isn't common knowledge yet; it can also be started by someone who doesn't know very much but who likes to feel important by making out that they know more than they actually do. Just for the record, I'm talking about your sources here - I'm not suggesting for a moment that that description applies to you: I know you're just doing the same as the rest of us when we hear a rumour - passing it on to your fellow 606ers as a matter of common interest. I hope you'll keep doing so, but I'll keep taking news like this with a pinch of salt until it happens.
I'm not saying anything about kunye, and I know nothing of Jonathan Ackworth. This may be strange for you to grasp given your recent residence here, but I tend to spend my time on the board of the club I actually support. That means I don't really worry about what Charlton fans are saying about their club, or the personal idiosyncracies of any of their regulars. All I'm saying is that 'done deals' reported via training ground gossip have proved to less than substantial in the past, so shouldn't be treated as gospel now. I'm challenging kunye's sources rather than kunye himself.
Wasn't sure where to put this, but Bryan wants to leave in January. Can't say I blame him but he could've kept schtum, given the reception he's had from the Fulham faithful recently. http://www.aldia.cr/futbol-costa-ri...os-Fulham-Seleccion_Nacional_0_440955931.html Dodgy translation, courtesy of Google:
After a bright start in his first game for Barnsley Ryan Williams' night ended sadly, as did Barnsley's as they went down 2-0 away to Oldham: âRyan Williams showed some good feet when he made a weaving run into the box and his cross was headed out for a corner. Oldham were able to clear their lines as they continued to push forward and showed more danger in attack in the opening 30 minutes. Philliskirk and Wilkinson combined well with the former nearly beating Turnbull to the ball but the Barnsley keeper was quickly out to put paid to the danger. On 30 minutes Dominic Poleon was in the box again with the ball at his feet to shoot. Turnbull got a faint touch for an Oldham corner which Barnsley managed to clear. A couple of minutes later Oldham were on the attack again and Wilkinson was very close to a second goal with the ball fizzing just wide of Turnbullâs far post. Ryan Williamsâ debut was cut short when he hobbled off injured after just 36 minutes and was replaced by Devante Cole.â Full match report: http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/ar...ort-07102014-2003571.aspx#UsctoIMa5KhE4jCp.99
He’s obviously not hapy. Maybe it’s because the Club took until the Bolton game to have his picture on the ‘big screen’ when announcing the team before kick off; in previous games he was just a grey shadow. This article seems pretty much a rehash of what Bryan said when nothing happened for him in the summer transfer window. However something, or somebody prompted it and as you say Bidley the timing could have been better. Likely then it was his Agent gearing up for the January window. So if he’s not content and finding it difficult to adjust to this League, there’s only one option - give him all the help he needs and sell him in January to get as much as we can before his contract runs out.
I wouldn't be too disappointed if he left in January, he does add quite a lot to the team when he's on form but then again so does Chris David. We'll be fine without him.
Ryan Williams played for 86 minutes before coming off injured (again!) in Barnsley’s 3-1 win over Bradford yesterday. He was in central midfield and by all accounts did well. Match report: http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/article/reds-v-bradford-full-time-12102014-2011874.aspx
