Deluded. If you think our form is OK with no win in four games then that's what you are. Monk apologists out in force again I see. I'm prepared to give credit when it's due but you should be equally prepared to say he's got it wrong and his subs have been rank in the last two games. Fact. But you keep wearing those rose tinted, guys. If you'd both actually gone to the game, paid for a ticket and had to watch us spunk away points against a rubbish team through a lack of application, concentration and by poor, late subs maybe you'd have a different attitude. Monk needs to sort this - fast. Some great play but we need to do it for 90 mins and he really needs to get his subs right. And he's not.
Bloody hell, sarcasm and humour is wasted on you DB Should we blame Monk because Emnes fluffed it 1 on 1 with the keeper? Had he scored we would have been kissing Monks are and saying what a great tactical sub it was. They scored two goals because of defensive mistakes, and their keeper saved them conceding at least another two goals. The application and tactics were spot on for large parts of the game. Look through the entire thread, I was questioning why subs hadn't been made earlier on during the game, but if it wasn't for a lack of concentration by players, and ours being more clinical in front of goal (something Monk has no control over), we would have won today.
Ifs, buts and maybes. As I've repeatedly said on this thread we played very well in parts and I really don't have much of a beef with the players. But that's two games in a row Monk has got his subs very very wrong. Yes, I'm concerned he's apparently not learning. You should be too.
I think there is a fair bit in this, but may be a little harsh. There is a theme developing where we play good football, get a lead then sit back. We try to keep possession and slow the tempo. The problem is we invite pressure and no matter how well we play we always give the occasional loose pass. Newcastle took there chances today. Newcastle made changes and stayed energetic. We may have generally been playing okay but by not making subs we tired and had nothing left at the end and could have easily lost. Jazz and Shelvey in particularly faded badly at the end. We may play over intricate stuff occasionally but I thought we played well today and created enough chances. Really could have done with Britton come on with 30 minutes to go to control the game. Not sure how the linesman missed the knee in Bony's back. Disappointing, we may just be blowing our chances of having a great season.
His substitutions have been very strange since he has took over I agree. But, had Emnes scored, nobody would have questioned the decisions. Around the hour mark, he should have taken Jonjo or Gylfi off and brought Carroll on for me to play possession football alongside Ki. I also thought that Montero should have come on for Dyer before NU scored their second. He also needs to give Taylor lessons on how to pass the poxy ball forwards and then overlap with Routs to create space because everytime he passes the ball to Routs, he just stops moving and then that allows the opposition RB and RW to double up on Routs.
So we're singing from the same hymsheet. But football is all about what ifs. "had Emnes scored". He didn't. "he should have taken Jonjo or Gylfi off and brought Carroll on". He didn't. "Montero should have come on for Dyer before NU scored their second." He didn't. Nobody's saying that Monk's decisions would definitely have got us the three points but bringing on subs with 5 mins to go probably sealed our fate imo.
The frustrating thing is, that these lapses in concentration from the players and strange subs atm are stopping us getting maximum points and possibly giving us an unthinkable season.
who says monk got his subs wrong ??? i think monk will know about what subs to use than any fan would what you should say dragon is ...monk got his subs wrong two games running In your opinion because that is all it is, your opinion that some may agree with but as a realist then i know that monk knows the best way to use our subs and not i or anyone else...
I think it's harsh to doom Monks subs. It's easy to say that the right thing to do would be to sub at the 60 mins mark. But that way, we could have lost. We don't know. In this match we are unlucky. Cisse gets to much space two times and scores both times. He's runs should have been picked up, but was not and it's poor defending. At the same time Krul did good and denied Bony at least two times. Overall I think we did good and was punished harshly...
No, he got it wrong. If you think he got it right then we are in the mire, as it means we don't have any quality on the bench. It's happened before and it will happen again. It's no good giving two players 10 minutes to change a game when your indecision has thrown away another 2 points.
Garry Monk is our manager - he is doing OK with little managerial experience in the toughest league in the world - he may, or may not, make mistakes - but he will learn from them! We are sad little men - with no experience of the toughest league in the world - but we know he got it wrong and we would have done it so much better! We will never learn! Football management is so easy whilst sitting on your arse and watching it from the stands or on TV! Monk is learning as he go's after being thrown in at the 'deep end' - he will make mistakes, but at the minute we are fourth with 11 points from 7 games - IMO he seems to be acquitting himself quite well but will be happy to concede the point to those on here who would obviously do the job a lot better! Cut the guy some slack - he's doing OK - he might not have all the answers but he has built a team that can compete at this level - we have no divine right to win games and today faced a team who were fighting for their lives - we were better than them, but they capitalised on some lax defending and earnt a draw - get over it - life is seldom fair, but we have enough quality to do well this season so get behind Garry - he is a Jack through and through and will give 110%, so we should do the same!
why would you wait until the 86th minute to bring Montero on, madness in my opinion. Mr Monk better start learning fast on how to use his subs better
Having watched MOTD it was some very poor marking and defending from Williams and Taylor that cost us those 2 goals, while Krul at the other end made some great saves to keep Toon in the game, sometimes games just don't go the way they should, and I'm sure that Monk sees we have not achieved the points tally we should have these last few PL games, but I'm sure it will come. Monk is calling the right subs in my view, but leaving it far too late...........
I agree with the subs he makes but as you say Phil, far too late, Montero should have been as soon as they scored the second or even earlier
Huge positives for me yesterday were Ki ,Fernandez and Bony. Ki is really getting the scoop on what Britton is all about , Fernandez is really starting to get comfortable .even if he had a medium game and Bony should have had a least 3 goals if not for a super keeper . Siggy and Bony are really getting comfortable with each other . Expecting a convincing 6 points from our next 2 games .
So,after three matches had produced nine points, there was much rejoicing, and Monk was being lauded as the new Messiah. Move over Chelsea,Man.City,Arsenal, and all the other pretenders to the throne. The new kid on the block had arrived, with some even forecasting that all the top European Clubs',viz,Barcelona,Real Madrid,Bayern Munich,et al,were making contingency plans to acquire Monk's services for next season. Street parties were being planned to celebrate the new Premier League champions. A new, larger, trophy cabinet had been ordered for delivery early in 2015. Open top buses from all over the country were being requisitioned, some eight months or so, in advance. And so the nonsense went on,and on. "Michael who?",was the mantra that constantly emanated from the mouths of those desperate to air brush Laudrup from the history book's. The more cautious, sensible among us, could only marvel at this awesome arrogance. Reality, however, has a habit of eventually asserting itself, and now, after seven matches, the team has eleven points. That's two points from four games, and that's relegation form,in anyone's book. Silence,or virtual silence, has now replaced the early season euphoria, and even grumblings of malcontent can be found on these pages,by the most ardent of Monk follower's. Do we cancel the buses? Do we now need that new trophy cabinet? Anyone want to buy some bunting? It's going cheap. Now,things can change very quickly. A couple of wins will relieve the pressure. Some humility, and realism may even be learned by those who clearly lack it. Michael Laudrup's achievements may even be recognised by his detractor's. Garry Monk may be seen for what he is - a "rookie" - and not a very special one,at that. For sure the team are still near the top of the table, and many are pointing to this as proof of Monk's managerial brilliance.,and glossing over the last four poor results. But,if the current trend of two points from four games continues,a rapid fall down the table will surely follow. Some will say it's still early in the season, and that's true, but I'm not feeling very comfortable with the way points are being surrendered at the moment. I hope Monk is feeling equally uncomfortable.
