We were much better than last week Bob and created a good amount of chances that should have been put into the net. Two defensive mistakes and they took their goals. Reading that post you'd think we're we rubbish. We could, and should have been 4-1 up at half time. Can't blame Monk for chances not taken. Monks gameplan was more or less spot on. Player mistakes cost us the three points, ie Emnes brought on and f**ed up 1 on 1 with their keeper. But, keep trying to bash Monk
In relation to the others - yep! I thought he was awful today. Jumped around and ran a bit but the quality of his play should have seen him off at half time.
Our passing game has been superb in some games this season. Then again, you thought WBA were all over us too.
We should never do that bob. Its our trade mark and what has got us up to where we are which is 4th in the top league currently....
We were not rubbish but we weren't great either. I agree with some of Bob's points. We're starting to hoof it to Bony a lot again - Williams in particular. We also gifted possession away far too frequently. Swans teams of a couple of seasons ago would be ashamed of that. But it must be remembered that our two goals were superb and came from slick passing moves, not hoofball. But our team need to learn a few things: 1: Concentrate for 90 not 45 or 50. 2: Stop trying Hollywood tricks and flicks all the time. Simple stuff works - Shelvey and Siggy I'm looking at you. 3: Mr Monk - we realise you're learning as you go but learn when to use subs during a game. That's twice in a row now.
That was Shelvey's best game this season for me. A really composed performance and Ki played well too. Sigs is a problem as he doesn't seem to get his positioning right at all and goes missing for long periods. Probably the reason that Tiote stood out for Newcastle today. I know he set up the goals but every game his season he's looked liken the man to take off to change things when they're not working. I'd like to see Gomis get a game in that position or further up. Stating the obvious but the game needed an injection of life from subs around the 70 mark. The game was really flat around then. Kept looking over to see if there was movement but nothing. Genuinely can't understand why Montero wasn't brought on much earlier but for Dyer. Both wingers struggled a bit today so a change should have been obvious or swap wings. Defence was a bit of a shambles for a part of the second half and they were all to blame. Fernandez made a few mistakes that I didn't expect from a player of his supposed class. Might just be me but Newcastle looked a better team today than most weeks and they looked much better than the other teams to play at the liberty this season. Might be wrong but I think they'll turn this corner after this result. Saying that though we should have beat them convincingly and had the chances to do so.
Fair points, Turkish. Not having a go at Shelvey or Siggy, it's just that they need to tone down the Hollywood stuff sometimes. As I stated earlier I'm finding it hard to have a go at our players as individuals. It's our overall lack of intensity and concentration that got to me today. And Monk's woefully late subs.
But nobody expected anything v Chelsea so didn't include that game. Still in 4th place though and we ain't playing well for 90 mins yet. Good job too, otherwise we'd walk the league this year
Not sure anyone is bashing Taylor, but I think many posters are genuinely forgetting the lad is coming back from a very nasty injury, and like Ramsey it will take some time before he gets back to his best, that is why I cut him the slack he deserves, he'll come good in my view.................
Welcome Turkish, and you have it spot on! Shelvey in my view too has had his best performance so far. Siggy is a problem at the minute as his assist are very important, but he's starting to get caught in possession a fair bit, looks knackered after 60 minutes and disappears, so I think Monk needs to jig things a little as far as Siggy is concerned or sub him for Emnes!..............
Nobody is bashing taylor .. What most are saying is at the moment Taylor is monks automatic LB and that can make a player complacent as he knows he will be playing the next game. We need another quality LB to give Taylor something to think about because at the end of the day Taylor is a quality LB but he is not showing it atm...
Our position just goes to show how competitive the premiership is and you cant take anything for granted...bottom can beat top on the day....
