Just been listening to 3 Lions on a shirt and remember people actually being excited and everyone getting together to watch England.

Amazing how things change in 10-15 years.

That still happened in the last tournament until we stood no chance of even getting out the group

We used to have an half decent team

I don't think it does. I remember getting together with the family and people over the road to watch the games in Euro 96, WC 98 etc and all cheering the team on etc.

I don't think it really happens anymore (or maybe I'm just older and don't do it).

Just think people used to relate to the players a lot more, people who weren't so detached from normal life etc, now a days Mr Joe blog can't relate to Rooney who earns more money a day than most people do in a year but in 96, ok footballers were still well paid but they didn't seem that different. Look at Pearce, Gazza, we don't have anyone in the team like that who seems like a normal bloke on the street that got lucky.

    Lambert?

I know what you're saying, International football will be ****e until it looks like we can compete again, then ppl will get interested. If England couldve done something, or even looked capable of progressing then more would have been made of it. I always rem lots of flags and stuff but there were only a few I notcied in the summer

Ok Lambert, but he's hardly a regular.

It's not even about competing. we didn't really compete in any of those tournaments (96 apart) but people felt more of a connection with players back then I think and if you can feel a connection with the players, you support them more.

I'm not old enough to remember football in the 80's (wasn't even born for most of it) but I'm 99% sure the crowds were a lot better then and got behind their team etc because footballers from the 80's weren't as detached as they are nowadays.

  8. Thing is, people were excited about 98 and 2002 too. 2000 was not so great and Rooney was the exciting point of 2004.

  9. Nope, can't agree with that. I had zero excitement, belief or passion for England in the summer, we were always going to fail and be dire to watch under Woy.

Agree with the bold sections but not so much the rest. The sides were exciting to watch and gave fans belief, the players were passionate and gave us something to get off our seat for, they had character and spirit. I've said it for a while but England need to forget about winnings things for a while and concentrate on putting decent exciting display on the field again. Get fans wanting to watch the national team, get the stadium full and create a atmosphere at games. Do that the pressure on players will relinquish, the support for the national team and players will enable us to move on to the next step and winning something so long as we have the players to match too.

Of course, the tribal support needs to ****off too. It shouldn't matter whether a player plays for Liverpool, Chelsea or Man Utd, they're English

We are dire I know, but me personally I always think every dog has his day and that so didnt believe we'd do anything but thought lets give it a go

With Roy its just a complete waste of time. Our players arent world class but you see other countries and it really matters to them and they overachieve, to us we wimper out like frightened little rabbits.

If we get a manager that knows his arse from his elbow and installs fire into the players we'll do better

Roy is a nice old man and that but I dont want him near any team I have an interest in

Anyway, rant over im off to bed! <cheers>

  12. We don't have world class players but we have decent players and plenty of attacking options, we lack defensive players if anything. Perfect job for Woy eh...
