If they had stood up to the goverment they would have been shot for cowardice and desertion and regardless of the circumstances they should still be remembered on this day.

Yes. They're fine. It's all about context, Medro. Look where you are. People don't want to come here to beat their chest and tear their sackcloths asunder in grief.

Maybe you don't start these kinds of articles to be argumentative. Here's your chance to prove it.

Yet knowing what this place is like you still found it an appropriate place to post about the brave sacrafices of thousands of British soldiers.

    Not very respectful is it?

Shows the type of people on here that take offence of someone mentioning a battle 95 years ago, but finds it quite appropriate to talk about rape, "gay sports" and other stupid topics.

So you think my argument here is invalid because I wrote a frivolous post?

Who's beating their chest? It's an important day in our country's history. Like I said pay respect or not, it's up to you. But I have as much right to voice my respect than the next person on here.

I think your Grow Up comment is a tad hypocritical.

Why not. I like to have a laugh too, I can't see what the issue is with paying a respect on an Internet forum on a day like today.

And those self-same rights allow the next person on here to make fun of your earnestness. It's not the subject matter that's up for debate here. It's the setting. I work with asylum seekers/refugees. I deal with rape and torture victims every day. I don't bring it onto this board because it's not the place for it. People come here for a giggle. You yourself have pointed out the general trend in the mentality of most of the posters here. Why, I ask again, are you not posting this on a more appropriate forum?

Because he seems to find quite a lot of the articles here silly. Simple really.

Na but most adults have a bit of common decency not to make inappropriate comments like yourself about people who fought and died for this country.

And - surprise surprise - this kind of article has, once again, resulted in a bit of an argument.

Honestly now; didn't you think this would happen?

Because you don't agree with them don't make them inappropriate. If the same situation arose tomorrow, misty-eyed patriots like yourself would be blindly marching off to repeat the mistakes of the past. If the majority of people were like me, unnecessary wars would be avoided and millions of lives would be saved. Which of us is respecting the war dead? Which of us is ensuring that they didn't die in vain?

do you think he'll change his viewpoint? if this is about honoring the dead then dont get into a point scoring argument. disagree with him, then let it go.

So all topics must be humorous, nothing sincere, nothing respectful.

I must have missed it, when they were handing out these rules.
