Mine too but look on the bright side he been losing us points since second game in. On a serious note it needed changing and this shoulder injury mihht be why he kept getting beat low at his near post
Anybody who thinks we are better of with Harper between the sticks rather than Greegsy is insane. He is by far the best keeper at the club.
I don't believe anyone has said that (some, me included, would prefer Jak as his replacement during injury). Some of us, prior to this announcement, have noticed a change in his game that we believe has cost us points - if that is due to him carrying an injury then we have some form of explanation. A fit, on form Mac is better that Harper or Jak, but an injured, off form Mac is not.
Well at least this explains Greegsy's recent lack of sharpness. Pretty amazing he's been playing at all, and still pulling some really cracking saves out of the bag too. So he just needs to get fit and well again, and he'll be reet.
I'm not a big Harper fan but he's pretty dependable, which you just can't say about Jakupovic. And he won't shy away from their big lads at set pieces like Jak would. Even more important for me is midfield. When we play teams like this we always seems to have Tom and Jake not getting a foot on the ball cos they just get bullied. We're miles better than them on the ball, but I'm worried we'll lose all the 50-50s again and Jedinak will run the show. Jake was too soft on Zabaleta for their 1st last week, and Diame let Silva breeze past him for the 3rd. I'd think about bringing Meyler in to win some tackles.
Couldn't agree more. Harper has no agility to get across to shots in the corners and is VERY slow. I'd take the Yak any day.
Do people not remember Jak's previous first team appearances? Nowhere near good enough. A perfect example of absence shading the memory.
Would that be the three consecutive clean sheets he kept prior to his gaff against Wednesday(and Stockdale coming in), his game against a strong Spurs side in which he saved a penalty in the shoot out or the game he had at Old Trafford which Bruce openly praised? Or are you just remembering the one mistake he made against the Wendies and basing his whole career (including his Champions League appearances) on that one dreadful day? I think he should be back up instead of Harper, who unfortunately just doesn't do it for me. He's got the experience, but as has been said before, his reflexes aren't what they used to be and his distribution is cack.
Watch their fourth goal and see Zabaleta jog by Hudd who looks like he's running through treacle. Diame is going to have to batter Jedinak.
Then you clearly know better than Steve Bruce who see's him every day in training and still picks a 40 year old ahead of him. I think that say's it all really, don't you think.
Yes we do...apparently you don't. You seem to have a real memory problem yourself and know nothing about Jakupovic career. Before joining us he became first choice GK on two top European clubs, Grasshoppers of Switzerland and Lokomotive Moscow, was an international with Bosnia and Switzerland, both of which are ranked higher than England by FIFA, and allowed 1 goal in his first four appearances when he joined us as Bruce's FIRST signing in 2012. Loaned out to Leyton Orient for half a season he was voted their Player of the Year and they were desperate to sign him on a permanent because of his brilliant goalkeeping. Bruce gave him a new contract because he knows what a top keeper he is. Yet you, and others, remember ONE poor game against Sheffield Wednesday. He's 30 years old, in his goalkeeping prime, 6'3 and very athletic. A great shot stopper. Harper is over 40, on the verge of retirement, was very poor at the end of last season when he seemed incapable of covering shots in the corners.
I reckon the Jak could take his chance if given it. He's been terrible for us but i think he\s likelier to have a one off blinder than harper.
I think you summed him up nicely there, even if by accident. He will always either be terrible or have a blinder. He never seems to play ok.
Canadatiger, if you know better than Steve Bruce you wouldn't be on here talking crap you would be the manager of a premier league football club as he is. Clearly he is in a far better position to judge than you are.
Just in the name of accuracy, he was never first choice keeper at Lokomotiv Moscow, he was there three years and only played twenty times, he's played once in a friendly for Switzerland and he obviously never played a first game for Bosnia, or he couldn't have played one for Switzerland. I think he's a half decent keeper, but lets not pretend he's some sort of world beater.
When he played a few games in Championship he looked like a accident waiting to happen. He was flappy and over dramatic. A typically European keeper.
It wasn't just one game with Jakupovic. He did another one in the same week as the Wednesday one away at Orient in the league cup. And he did it again at Barnsley in preseason. He's a pussy though and we can't have that against Palace.
