Plans for Newcastle United's new training centre at Darsley Park will go before North Tyneside planning committee next week

A decision will soon be made on whether to give the go-ahead for Newcastle United’s new state-of-the-art training facility.

The ambitious proposals for the new centre at Darsley Park in Benton, go before North Tyneside Council’s planning committee on Tuesday, October 7.

The club wants to demolish the existing building and create a 3,600 square metre centre which would put the club’s facilities on a par with those of Manchester City and Arsenal.

It will include new gym, swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, living and dining areas and outdoor BBQ zone.

The club has bought a number of Muslim players over the past few years, including ex-striker Demba Ba and former winger Hatem Ben Arfa, and existing practising Muslim players Papiss Cisse and Cheick Tiote would be given dedicated spaces to pray on training days if they wanted to make use of the rooms.

However, players of all religions would be accommodated for by the club.

The proposed building will be single-storey and eco-friendly and made from cross-laminated timber sourced from sustainable forests and will produce its own energy from a combined heat and power plant room.

Former Newcastle United director of football, Joe Kinnear, said when he unveiled the plans last year that this development would help the club rival the facilities of top European teams.

He said: “Top players and top teams need top training and medical facilities. Our current training ground has served the club very well but the new complex will give us all of the ingredients that we need to continue maintaining and enhancing the performance of elite footballers.

“It will also be an added attraction when we are looking to recruit players.”

Nine trees will be cut down to make way for the new building and the car park will also be redesigned.

9 trees ? You can get another 11 new planks and a dummy of a manager out of that Albert. It will be the best facility in the Championship !
Joking aside, thats your new striker cash paying for that.

KTF Albert, he won't be there for ever. The time is coming when the Toon guns will turn on him not the hapless Pardew. He has been dealt a sh*t hand off Fatty.

It's not new training grounds we need, it's the coaches who use them we need urgently because the ones currently in situ are rubbish.

A positive move, although i'm convinced the Council will find some objection via a 'mistake' within the proposition.

Strange there was no mention of how much the complex is likely to cost.

It's no bad thing to see us building for the future. The manager and coaching staff need changing, but that's not a reason not to invest in training facilities. Hopefully we'll be producing some decent home-grown talent in the future rather than the gutless bargain buys we have now.

If it goes through this can only be good news for the club. We could all do with a bit more of that!
