If passed the government will keep details of every site visited by every IP address in the country for 12 mths. The argument is terrorists and *****'s will be more traceable and organised crime gangs can be better targeted. Would you be happy with this, it is not monitoring in real time, but it would enable the government to look back on records to build cases and identify accomplices of the person they have arrested/ or people of a like minded disposition. It would be more important if the persons computer/phone was not available to interrogate. I am in two minds as it seems an infringement of basic rights/censorship.
Nope. A broad brush approach to what is a tiny %age of the population, that smacks of having a massive ulterior motive. Concentrate on the sites and individuals that you're targetting ffs
Since this seems to be based on the assumption that terrorists, *****s and organised crime gangs will put less effort into hiding their IP than the average forum WUM what's the ****ing point?
IF it was used for the reasons given then yes it can only be a good thing, trouble is us normal people know this will not be the case and it will lead to all sorts of bollocks. i dont want to start conspiracy theories or anything either lol, but how do we know the government in power at the time, ie i give no personnel preference to party, they are all ****s, do not obtain info illegally ie not terrorist or ***** reasons! and use it to black mail people to either get votes, money, power, influence etc or whatever the reason may be? whole reason why they have made people get bank accounts or have to be on council register for voting purposes so they have some record of every one, is this taking that a bit further?
Half the sites that block your IP address are cracked by the government now anyway. Using those sites is a sure way to make sure your activity is monitored in the first place. In the US it's pretty common knowledge that the US government has probably cracked TOR now- or at least is close to doing so. Full internet anonymity is a thing of the past. Do bad stuff online and they can track you now no matter how hard you try to hide it. Sure, you can make it difficult for them- but if they have enough motivation to find you, they will. Do something minor and they won't have the motivation or man power to go after you if you make things hard for them. Do something major and they'll find you eventually.
It'll be used for both. For the right reasons (the reasons they state) and for the wrong reasons. The truth is- they're probably already doing this anyway. They're just going to "publicly" admit to doing it now to make it easier on themselves to prosecute and make others store the data for them.
hope you don't my my despotic interference in adding OT to the title. An interesting topic. I for one would rule you all with an iron fist so am quite happy with this kind of tracking and recording. the key is to understand that those who are out to terrorize or be peados will use cut out and mobile burner sims etc so tracing the f'rs requires mre than just sifting through ips. you need to find them and deal with them and this is just the evidnece trail to pin crap on them.
Like most arrests of criminals they will only catch the stupid ones who leave a trail. The concern I would also have is once they have such a database some bright spark will start selling the details to online traders who will use it to target potential customers. The DVLA info is already available to companies to use.
I understand the concept of the dark web. I have no idea how to access it but if it's half as anonymous as is claimed, this Act will have very little impact whatsoever.
dont think it was intended for that purpose any way dave, think its just an excuse to spy on everyone personally.
Nah... they're doing local shoplifting- the police can't track their IP addresses to catch 'em... unless they're reporting it on twitter.
don't you man being grassed up on football forums complete with names and descriptions of said goods.
