Interesting article. I suppose we have to find other ways to generate income if we want longevity in this league. On the other hand is this how it all starts with small clubs being taken over. http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/Swansea-city-sale-club-hold-talks-Russian-Asian/story-23020547-detail/story.html
I guess there is always going to this kind of talk although undoubtedly we need to find a nice balance of a funding injection without a change in control.
Hmmm....so long as it's investment that's manageable I don't see a problem. But it could be the thin end of the wedge and we have to be very very careful indeed. Sharp businessmen usually want something out of a deal and that's understandable. Maybe the first stop could be to buy the stadium and kick the egg chasers out.
To cement our place in the Premier League we do need further investment but not at the expense of selling our soul like another club not a million miles away.
I know some disagree but stadium ownership gives us a free reign and protects our pitch. We're a Prem Club, not some two bit outfit that needs to ground share.
Investment = debt isn't that simple though, roof. Depends what you do with the investment doesn't it? If x investment gives you y return you can service it comfortably whilst cementing your place in the Prem if you're savvy. The problem is when y turns out to be less than x because you've overstretched or mismanaged. I agree though, it's a risky strategy and you have to know what you're doing.
No we shouldn't go down this route far too dangerous. If I had a choice between being taken over by so called money men or relegation then its relegation for me. Rather the club be run by swansea fans. Irrespective of which division we're in I'll still be there supporting my club.
The fact we dont own the stadium is a plus point in this scenario. Very few money men will be interested in trying to buy the club for that very reason. However they may still invest.
I'd keep the Ospreys in the Liberty even if we bought it, that's income. Why aim for three or four music performances and ignore about twenty professional games? It doesn't impact us as the pitch can handle it. If we owned the stadium I would be happy to sell the naming rights for a few years, it turned out okay before but now Liberty are getting free advertising as that deal ran out years ago. Using investors money we should buy the Stadium and offer them 10 years naming rights, we put some of our cash towards that purchase to make it above board. The council will accept building cost plus any outstanding debt, which should total no more than £30M.
Yeah, two bit outfits like Roma and Lazio, Beyern and TSV Munich, Inter and AC Milan. I really hope we don't end up buying or arranging to sell the Liberty to a private concern ... caused problems in Coventry.
We are part of the solution to the Premier League's financial woes as a role model , why would we want to become part of the problem the Premier is expierencing. Im with sbulby , ill except relegation before investors
Didn't say there aren't other clubs that ground share Bob, but that's usually because of necessity rather than choice. I can list a lot more prestigious names than you can of cubs that do own their own ground. Neither did I say we should own it I said that 'maybe' we should. Like it or not there is kudos, freedom, and crucually, income attached to owning your own stadium though I can see arguments to the contrary.
Just read that article again. I'd me more concerned about the provenance of any investment than the investment itself. Scratch the surface of Abramovitch's history and it's really not pretty. Russian investors are a no-no for me. Dirty money, dirty people. Asian investment is questionable too as corruption is endemic and do we really want to be associated with people like Tan? Hasn't worked well for QPR and Fernandes has it? They're in breach of the FFP Rules apparently - something which we have to be aware of like every other club. Like many fans I'm wary of outside investment but not completely against it provided the Board gets it right and that includes the terms and the source.
So what the E/P are saying seems to be there are 3 intrest in the club . I would say Russia no/ Asia no Usa not to sure but as you say Dragon if the Board get it right then maybe.
I remember the last time we got involved with foreigners, tony wideboy petty..tan up the road, remember Portsmouth, what about carsen yeung at birmingham, the thai bloke at man city, carefull what you wish for
From what Huw says it sounds like they need a commercial team. Something we can afford now surely? They may even get the club shop stocked on time?
The longer we stay in the premiership the more money we will need to survive. Investors not just foreign are definitely needed soon and i can understand exactly what Huw is saying as without it then as time goes on then it will become very difficult to compete with other clubs who are a lot richer than us, Football has gone crazy and far too greedy and it's getting worse every season that its getting to the stage now that only the mega rich will survive, Like Huw says he wont rule out anyone on the board selling their shares at a healthy profit and that includes him. It is not that far away where football will self destruct because of the rate it is spiraling out of control with greed.
