Full of respect for the youngsters demanding an open vote in Hong Kong. They know the risks they are taking with the Chinese government, which will, sooner or later, crush this, unless something radical has changed and they care what the rest of the world thinks. Of course, most of these kids are the sons and daughters (or grandsons and granddaughters) of people who fled China in search of better lives and the freedom to speak their mind in the first place. Like Jimmy Lai, the billionaire entrepreneur, who has joined the protest, and has never been shy of criticising the Chinese regime.

    Good luck kids.

Many are already buying up large swathes of prime new developments in London. I regularly pick up from one or two sites that are more than 50% Chinese-owned. They've seen this coming...

They are trying to keep a lid on reporting this in China apparently.
Clearly worried the same thing will happen there.

The communist Chinese Government is finding out now that prosperity through increased commercial interaction with the West is a double-edged sword. It wakes the Chinese population up to Western influences and values, democratic processes etc - and increasingly the people want a part of it. It's likely what's happening in HK will affect the whole of China. Then, either the regime will start cracking at the seams or we get another Tiananmen Square. Hopefully, China's moved forward too far since 1989 for the latter to happen

Stand off still underway, students asking for something, resignation of HK's CEO, which will not be given. This either just peters out or ends badly. Ringleaders named and tagged for dealing with later by now though.

I don't use the word 'hate' seriously very often, but I will in relation to the Chinese government. 1,800 verified executions there last year, more than twice the rest of the world put together, and that's just the verified ones, real level probably 4 or 5 times that. But it's a 'state secret', no telling how many of its own citizens these fascists have killed.
