Reading Fan Chat – Leeds v Reading

    Wednesday, 1st October 2014 (Championship)

As always, friendly greetings from daib0. Close season has long come and gone, and we’re business as usual again. So onto our game together this coming Wednesday – and I wondered if I could have a few views from yourselves to inform the members on my forum. Guaranteed no ‘wind ups’ on my Royals forum! Whilst I’d be grateful for anyone saying what they like thinking ahead to the game, perhaps here I’d just like to point you all towards a few ideas. These will really help us. Just a few basic easy things – here goes:

A] ** I imagine you can’t be too pleased on the current manager situation. I’ve read many threads on various Leeds forums on the long-running boardroom saga … could you sum up in a couple of phrases how you personally feel at the moment?

B] ** However, in spite of the apparent unrest Leeds are quietly getting on with the work in hand on the pitch itself. Quite comfortable so far this season, indeed you are only three points off the play-offs. I’d say that was pretty impressive stuff. So … what are your realistic hopes this season?

C] ** Is the Championship getting harder year by year? Who do you see as the main other candidates for promotion? Any special match this year that you definitely don’t want to miss?

D] ** Any notable changes to your squad in the summer? Any great prospect among the youngsters coming through? And who should Reading FC fear most in our game together?

E] ** Any memories (good or bad) or anecdotes of previous Leeds United – Reading encounters that you could share with us?

F] ** Finally, how do you see the game going? A score prediction if you haven’t left it in another place on the site or please just saying once again to make it that bit easier for me?!

Any snippet quoted will be fully credited with your member user name + forum mention.

    Cheers,

daib0, and the guys & gals on the Reading ‘Royals Rendezvous’ forum

Ill throw in my opinion on each section
    a. Far too early to comment on our current manager/coach. First one Hockaday was a disaster but Cellino at least had the sense to react quickly and remove him. Reddders did a great job stabilising matters while we searched for Darko who's only had a week in charge
    b. Realistic hopes are probably a top ten finish with hopes of a big improvement in our style of football from past seasons. Anything above top ten will be a bonus
    c. Actually think league is weaker this season and dont see any real stand out teams. Looking forward to the return of McCormacks Fulham to eland road
    d. Lewis Cook at 17 is a revelation from our academy. However Cellino has brought in 15, mainly foreign players, many settling in well and some who haven't been able to break into the team yet. Silvestri in goal is superb. Bellusci Doukara Sloth and Antenucci all very promising.
e none except for the constant references last season by McD to his achievements with you lot. Got tiresome after first half dozen times
    f. Hard to make a stab at predicting our scores. Saturdays performance was crap. Our problem has been slow to get into games and seem to fall behind before we start playing. This could be anything from a heavy defeat to a big win

I actually pretty much agree with Eire almost every word. Except I think we'll be aiming for play-offs but not entirely disappointed with finishing top 10,.

Just 1 quick point to add,not sure where the negative vibe comes from, most Leeds fans are the most optimistic they have been in years.Love the owner, and well pleased with most of the new players.Think we will get better as the season goes on but as we still have a fair way to go not sure which team will turn up.

I responded to a thread on the leicester board the other day in a pretty similar way, bearing in mind the thread title was "leeds are a complete joke" or something along those lines. For some reason fans of other clubs seem to see us in a worse way than ever. Personally I actually think we are turning a corner and we seem to have bought with the idea of keeping a lot of these players together for a long time rather than the "he can do a job" signings of Warnock. Pair those signigns with academy graduates and I do genuinely believe we can build a really good team here, this season is too early imo. but they will grow massively throughout it.

Not too unhappy, the squad has been overhauled, some of the new players (including some academy youngsters) have a bit of talent. Not sure yet if they can deliver consistently.

Not sure also if the new coach is the man to get the best out of them, I have not been impressed in his interviews, hope that's just a language thing. But don't mind Readfern not getting it, it's true we did well but we were a bit lucky apart from v a weak Huddersfield side

This season I'll be happy to see us finish strongly with a team looking like contenders for auto next season. Playoffs would be a bonus

I think teams in the top 6 have the best chance of promotion, especially the top 2, and this becomes increasingly true, the nearer you get to end of season ;)

Leeds players to watch out for - our best entertainer is Cellino, in the stand, Silvestri GK is good, the two front men Doukara and Antennucci can be a handful, cook as mentioned is doing well for a youngster

Have to agree with all of Eireleeds1 comments apart from one, I am not looking forward to McCormack coming back to Elland Road because we know what he is like when he has a point to prove (or a new contract ready to be placed on a table) and I can see him scoring against us.

I also agree with LCW and Josh - Most fans are more than happy with the progress made this year, for those that do not follow Leeds United and believe what they read in the red tops then yes I would imagine it isn't a great picture when the truth is things are now better than they have been in the past ten years.

Good point Josh ... only reason other fans are talking negatively about us is because we are on the rise again ... Cellino is getting us pointed in the right direction, and we just need a little bit of tweaking and we'll fly ... we know there are still a few players that need to go, and they will be replaced by better quality ... at least we play at Elland Road and not the King Power Stadium, sounds like something from ninja turtles
