I've not seen any sign that he will score goals soon. No more so than any other forward / AM.

Was not at all impressed by Gomis' showing at Sunderland. Not sure what all the fuss is about him based on that game. He was like an ornament in the box at both ends - pretty static and not making much effort to get on Montero's crosses or showing any sign of anticipation. For somebody who is supposedly capable of playing in the Prem he has a long way to go to look the part. He is not a replacement for Bony - he is not suited to the same style of play based on what he's shown so far and for a big lad he is weak in the air.

Hard to disagree with any of that, but a word of caution condemning him too much. That same paragraph could have been written about Bony around about this time last year. Let's give him a chance before rushing to judgment.

Agree. The measure of quality on Gomis will ultimately be the degree to which he adapts - to the team, the league, his role. However, I expect players in the Prem to have certain tools and I expect those tools to be on display with some degree of mastery - not so impressed last Saturday. As Toshack supposedly once said there are Prem League players and players that play in the Prem league (it's funny but QPR always comes to mind when I think of this). Bony is a prem league player. Gomis to be determined.

To add one more thing ... it's a tad expensive (transfer fees, wages, and missed opportunities) to have to wait for players to "adapt" - isn't football just football. We're not talking about jumping from L2 to the Prem, we're talking about going from the top league in France to the top league in the UK .... when we're comparing two "oranges", an "orange" should be an "orange", the differences should be minimal.

I'd really like to try and see Routledge playing upfront as a plan B or d :) he is experienced yet super fast with amazing technique he could be a bit like Saido Berahino for West Brom.

He and Nathan can certainly control the ball from 50 yard clearances, even when the grass isn't long.

    IMO
    1. Bony - is our main man, is getting better and one goal will break the dam.
    2. Gomis- our no 2 simply because we don't have to change our game plan if he starts ahead of Bony. He's Bony lite and not as threatening, yet, but there are glimpses of what he can do. Gomis with confidence will be great for us.
    3. Emnes- our no 3. He can run channels, exploit gaps and chase through ball but has no aerial presence and gets bullied off ball with his back to goal; when holding ball up, if lone striker. Speed and skill make up for this but Emnes for Bony means too many changes to our play.

Even though Bony not scored I feel his presence has created the space for others. Two defenders mark him giving space time so freedom to our midfield. Bony's absence appears to have adversely effected Gilfy the most.

Gomis currently has no confidence he needs a goal more than anyone, Emnes knows our system and slots right in nicely but he can't play up front on his own.

I'm happy with all three even though they're not banging them in yet.

Come on bony has been poor so far. gomis has showed much more promise up front so far. Emms would be better if given the chance...

Agree MH, Gomis has showed much promise and is improving each time he plays. Imo though, Bony is primed, ready to 'blow his load' over some weak defence and you can't get weaker than Newcastle right now, they're already on their knees and it wont take much for Bony to prize them open :emoticon-0104-surpr

Time for Bony to show them 'who da Man'

If bony don't do the business at home against a poor toon side then he needs to be dropped to the bench. we cant afford to carry him along hoping he will score....put him in the reserves for a while and see if he can score with them. ...He is no good to us atm....

Still not seeing where the idea that Gomis is showing great promise is coming from. He's done very little from my point of view.
I wouldn't expect great things yet given the change of football culture, limited time and generally weak performances.
