Bristol City are 'galacticos' of League One claims MK Dons boss Karl Robinson.

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson labelled Bristol City the “galacticos of League One” after watching his side go down 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Ashton Gate yesterday.

The phrase was coined to describe the expensive, world-famous players recruited by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who purchased at least one galactico every summer during his tenure.

Although City’s spending power cannot begin to compare with that of the Spanish giants, they boast one of the most expensive squads in the third tier this season, having recruited seven new players during the summer.

“Bristol City are a very, very good side and have assembled a very strong squad that really should be up there.

“They are like the galacticos of League One and have signed really well during the close season.

“When you look at their team and see players of the quality of Luke Freeman, Aaron Wilbraham, Mark Little, Luke Ayling, Wade Elliott and Kieran Agard, you can see why they are where they are.

"You have to say that Steve (Cotterill) has done a really good job with them since coming in as manager."

Although Robinson took issue with referee Oliver Langford’s handling of a tumultuous contest and felt his side deserved to take something from the game, he paid tribute to the manner in which City managed to find a way to win.

He said: “They are very game savvy and very good at killing a game. You have to take your hat off to them instead of moaning and this was one of those occasions when you have to praise the opposition.

“I thought the referee allowed them to do it, but they played the game very well.”

Robinson felt the visitors were the better side overall. He said: “I was proud of my players and thought we were the better team.

“We had more shots, were strong going forward and showed everybody in the stadium that there were two good teams out there. We will take a lot of positives from the game, even though we are disappointed at conceding a sloppy goal and not at least picking up a point.

“I was a bit bemused to be 2-0 down at half time, because I don’t think the score-line reflected the game. But we were magnificent in the second half.”

Yes I did read it and to be fair he is right.
We have the best squad by a country mile.
Promotion is not a divine right, but this squad should win this league.

If we really get our act together and by that I mean I still think we have a long way to go, particularly in defence, to become the complete deal able to sew up this division and provide the base for higher quality football next season. Why on earth were we not able to do the necessary rebuild the season after our visit to Wembley?

I must confess I finally believe that we have our house in order under SC and the ability to add another 3-5,000 to the gate each week would go a long way to balancing the books further in able to support but the stadium renovations severely restrict that possibility. However I accept what we are getting with open arms and hope we can weather the inevitable storm of injuries, suspensions and fixture cancellations with the squad we have until January when I'm sure Steve has some targets in mind if they should be required to shore up the charge for the top. Lovely feeling I must say after the years of struggle and dross.

    A really dangerous tag

Remember a certain ex L2 team who were supposed to be the Barcelona of that division a couple of years ago.....

at least it was there manager saying it, and not some self proclaimed nonsense,(unlike the other mob), and while I still appreciate everybody wants to beat anybody that's top of there league, I still like to see us keep a low profile and just go about our business.

A HINT OF SARCASM but in one thing he is right ...

knack of killing off the game! YEP good v DONNY AND PVALE but almost came unstuck against MKD and did CERTAINLY did against Fleetwood.. that lost 2 points were a serious slip up..

    2 -1 >>>>4-1 >>>>7 -1 >>> 10 - 1 >>>>13 - 4 >>>>>> 16 - 6 our progress of last 6 games goals >>>>>> Walsall v CITY ???

3 goals will almost certainly = A POINT OR 3.. but a 1 GOAL DIFFERENCE = A POINT AT END OF SEASON IF TEAMS TIE !

    IMAGINE

    Swindon 46 92 points GD +27 = UP
    PNE.........46 92 points GD +27 + UP
CITY........46 92 points GD +26 = 3 more GAMES TO PLAY! OR is A VISIT to Wembley more important!

As the season unfolds, 2 dropped points at home to Orient also look like a bit of a waste too.

You can't have a low profile when signing players like Freeman at this level. Cotterill on the football league show was talking about winning the league. That has to be the goal for a club that has also been described as the Man City of the west. Citys subs bench and stiffs will nearly pay for some clubs squads
