I'm actually a big McGregor fan but after today I think we should give Harper a shot in goal for the Palace game. McGregor has made some very questionable actions going as far back as the FA Cup final and as has been a major factor in costing us results. 1. Carzorla free-kick in the FA Cup final (possibly slightly harsh but arguably could have done better) 2. Lokeren goal which could be argued put us out of Europe 3. West Ham equaliser 4. Newcastle 1st goal last week 5. Man City's 3rd this afternoon Harper has been solid and reliable and I think it's time for him to get a couple of games and give McGregor something to think about. A new keeper top of the shopping list in Jan maybe?
I agree McGregor needs to step up his game, but I don't think our other options are any better. Therefore McGregor keeps his place by default, not ideal though.
Was just going to start a GK thread. Not sure of Dzeko's goal scuffed it but was in the corner. I will say Mac's kicks were ****ing **** though.
He's seemed a bit off since he ruptured his kidney. Time for a rest, get Harps or the Jak back in I'd say.
the 3rd goal, wasnt particularly an error, was right in the corner, they're finishing today is the stuff of champions, completely different level, that quality kills you lokeren goal wasn't a goalkeeping error, it was just ****ing stupid, not the first player to do something like that the cazorla free kick, 50/50 the west ham one, the ball deflected out of nowhere into his path, he did save it, but came of davies tangled legs, because the ball came that quick Newcastle 1st goal, probably should have saved it, but i don't think a new goalkeeper is needed, if bruce didnt insist on long balls all the time from goal kicks his kicking wouldn't be as much of sn issue, his kicks are quite poor seems every time he concedes, theres a new thread up and really harper? kin hell some people have their judgement skewed
If we need to put Harper in we're struggling. Al Mac is solid enough keeper, all this talk of dropping him is a bit OTT IMO.
some people were saying robertson needed dropping after last week.. some people are getting visions of grandeur
He has had a poor start to the season by his high standards. He has all the ingredients of a great keeper and has proven it in the past. We need to stick by him - his reaction saves are a thing of beauty. Harper cost us a few points in the 2nd half of last season, he's not a step up.
1) You said it 2) Fair enough 3) Should have been cleared by Davies 4) Fair enough 5) Unlucky with that one. McGregor isn't an issue. If the attackers weren't given so much space, there would be no need for McGregor to save them.
More kneejerking, people will try and pick fault with anything. Lets drop Mcgregor and give Sumo Hesford another run. FFS
Their 3rd today was a technically brilliant goal and it is harsh to pin it to a GK error. His kicking has deteriorated but not yet at a worrying level. It's his lapses of concentration that concern me, although not today. His performance today did not merit dropping, but his performances over the tail-end of last and all of this season has shown a noticeable dip in form. I would prefer Jak over Harper if a change were decided. I definitely believe January should be used to strengthen and bring in better competition. Anyone been following Oxley's form?
He's a good keeper but just not on his game at mo. He's not commanding his box as he normally would, and his distribution when he has the ball in his hands is almost non existent; not always his fault as sometimes nobody to throw to due to lack of movement! Certainly he needs more competition, Harps is a good back up but past his sell by date, and The Jak has never been good enough. One decent game at OT and Brucey gives him another 2 years?
I'm not screaming for a new goalie, just think Greegsy could do with a rest of a game or 2, plus, we need our 2nd choicers playing as well surely? Christ, if I'd ruptured a kidney when he did, I'd still be demanding personal nurse care. He is a good goalie. Personally I'd hope Harps is replaced, he's been a stalwart backup for us, but his time is done now. I call upon the Jak to move up to the next level and start being our number 2, and to do that he should be given the chance to play.
At the mo we are leaking too many goals, we need a commanding keeper and The Jak will never be that; just my opinion.
I think the problem is we are now playing 4-4-2 rather than 3-5-2. The loss of an extra centre half has left the keeper more exposed and has also contributed to our **** goals against column. We cannot continue having to score 3 or 4 goals per game to have a chance of a point or three. The way we set up with attacking fullbacks means we must play 3 at the back, surely Bruce can see that now?
When we pulled the game back to 2-2 Chezzy should have been introduced, the same as he should have been brought off the bench in our previous match, that would have shored things up at the back but Robo would still have been able to do his thing.
I don't know why some people on here blindly sympathise with him. All players go through bad patches and usually come out of them but at least admit he has been substandard to what he can be.
