I wasn't saying that criticising the ref is more constructive, I was pointing out that he was never constructive in his criticism, it was always "I told them not to concede and they conceded. They've got no guts". And actually, criticising the referee is constructive, it takes the focus off the players and adds pressure to the referees for future matches. Mourinho, Wenger, Fergie, the most successful managers in the modern British game and all of them would go mental over a bad decision(even when it wasn't a bad decision) before they'd criticise their team for a loss. I guess they don't know as much as Sherwood though.

For the record, I'm not saying Fergie wouldn't have had a go at his players, I'm saying that Fergie would've made the headlines about the referee and other things rather than him slagging off his players week after week. Fergie also earnt the right to have his opinion respected. Sherwood was giving it the big I am in the media every week. He talked up his bringing in Bentaleb and other young players, talked up his win percentage when things were going well and then rounded on the players when it didn't. I think everyone's had a boss like him, taking credit when things go well and criticising everyone but himself when it doesn't.

Vertonghen didn't look to have a bad attitude today.

Sherwood tried to loan Chadli out to Swansea. I'm not sure he said that about him either.

Sherwood rates all the young players at Spurs. He was the one that wanted Fryers and he once said Carroll could play for Barcelona. If you praise all the young players then you're bound to get some right. Besides there's a huge difference between having an eye for talent and being a good manager, which is where Sherwood fell short on several ocassions. He played Chadli and Paulinho as a midfield partnership ffs!

When you talk about win percentages pehaps we should also be talking about his 1 win in 6 record in cup competitions. Or if we're talking about records, how about the fact that 'Arry and AVB never had a bad word to say about Sandro and built their teams with him in a key role, or Vertonghen never previously having had his attitude brought into question.

Regardless of all that, Lloris wanted to leave if Sherwood remained and in a choice between Sherwood and Lloris I'd take the Frenchman everytime, wouldn't you?

From the fan who created this thread to criticise Pochettino for mumbling in interviews.

Sherwood never tried to loan out Chadli, he wanted him to stay yet if you remember there where many lies said about Sherwood, we even had fans going on twitter saying he had punched Soldado.

As for Sandro he questioned his attitude and its quite clear it was an issue as Sandro was more focused on his "beast" status and as such Sherwood has been proved correct.

And YV, no mention of Kane and Bentaleb? the only reason they are here is because Sherwood gave them a chance, with Kane being viewed as a waste of a first team spot before Sherwood showed he could play his part and if you read the quotes from the swindon manager he wanted to bring back Mason. And no Sherwood doesn't rate every youth player as Bentaleb wasn't a leading player in the youth team, there where players rated higher then him, and who did Sherwood pick to play in the 1st team and hence help go to the world cup and become an important player for the first team squad? not any old youth player, the one he fast tracked.

Verts did have a bad attitude and he has been questioned by many a fan and while Lloris may have wanted to leave, thats irrelevant as Sherwood was never going to be a long term choice and this isn't about him being a long tern choice, merely discussing the fact Sherwood was correct on many occasions and as for crap tactics, his tactics weren't bad when he outwitted Pochettino twice, a manager who also plays Eriksen on the left (which Sherwood got slated for) and a manager who also plays inverted wingers.

Remember I'm not saying Sherwood was good enough to manage us long term, just the difference is I can look past his "Mouthing off" because a lot of what he said was right and some of the players needed a kick up the backside, especially in a season when the players had shown very little passion for the shirt.

The reason that i made the comment is that it's widely known that a lot of sherwood's problems with fans - and therefore subsequently others - is that his dad is an arsenal fan. To me this is as pathetic as it gets, not least because he had been at spurs for years.

Having read Colin's comment, i can all too easily imagine an element of fans jumpimg up and down claiming sherwood was an arsenal fan because he'd given the ball to an arsenal player to get the game restarted. Just the thought of such a moronic (i am not calling colin moronic btw), infantile attitude makes me shake my head in disbelief, even though having heard the comment i know full well there would have been plenty who took the same view of what was a total non incident which any reasonable person would have taken no notice of.

Yes YV, this frm a fan who criticised the fact that the manager seems to have communication limitations, and seemed to have a somewhat defeatest attitude after the loss to west brom, and was apparently unable to motivate the players.

Whilst i might have been overly quick to criticise poch, the concerns that i raised were ones which could easily translate into failings as a manager, unlike throwing the ball to a player from the opposition to get the game restarted which is not only complete bollocks, but clearly something that was only ever raised out of a prejudice against, and a determination to attempt to undermine, the manager.

That said, if the way i made my comment was out of line - certainly i focused on a very small part of colin's comment - then i am happy to acknowledge that and hold my hand up to that extent.

My point about the ball has not been made well...my objection was he threw the ball at the gooner as an act of aggression...he was a pardew waiting to happen imo...giving the ball back to the opposition is not something I would ever criticise...I found it odd when people complained that sherwood was an arsenal fan ... my only complaints about him were based on his managerial abilities or imo his lack of them

Fair enough. My apologies then. I wasnt aware of /didn't remember the throwing the ball incident, but it seems quite likely that it might relate to his awareness of fans' (not including you) views on his arsenal connections.

Like you said...disliking him for being a gooner fan is petty...completely beyond me to understand.
    Enjoy your weekend mate

Chadli himself said he could have gone on loan but chose to stay. If Sherwood wanted to keep him he wouldn't have even had the option.

Redknapp doesn't believe Sandro has an attitude problem, neither did AVB, the problem came around when Sherwood kept leaving him out despite us clearly needing a Sandro type player in our team.

You had already mentioned Kane and Bentaleb, I was simply providing some balance. AVB was including both players in his squads at the start of the season so clearly Sherwood wasn't going out on a limb in thinking they could do well for us. AVB also brought Townsend in to a regular part of our first team squad and the likes of Coulthirst, Winks, Veljkovic and Bale mk 2 were all being groomed for chances in the first team also. I don't deny that Sherwood taking a chance on young players was brave and to his credit but you have to have some balance. By your logic Martinez should be praised for given high praise bringing through Stones and Barkley and Moyes for bringing Januzaj into a regular feature of United's first team. Timing is key for a lot of these instances.

Sherwood wasn't all bad but there were some very worrying features to our game under his time in charge. I give him credit where I feel it's due and I don't think he deserves credit for Chadli's goals this season. publicly laying into the team when better managers would not have and a win percentage that included a large amount of poor performances.

Communication limitations with who? I understand what he's saying and there's never been a player that's come out and said they couldn't understand him(several have praised his communication skills actually). This problem is entirely your own invention based on your struggling to understand his interviews.

Defeatist attitude? You're going to have to explain that one, all I can find is quotes saying the players didn't perform well enough and that he has a large enough squad to change things around for the next game.

I don't really have an opinion on whether you were out of line to Colin, I didn't think you were but I haven't followed it all that closely. I was just making a point that I felt you were being unfair to Pochettino whilst accusing others of doing the same to Sherwood.

Personally I'm very Spurs biased and I don't deny that. When Sherwood was in charge I tried to be as positive as I could but by the end I was pleased to see him go. It was the same with AVB, I really didn't want him to be given the job but once he did I got fully behind him. Pochettino too, he's not immune to criticism but in general I'll be positive and upbeat about our chances with him until things go badly wrong.

Sherwood should have spent more time mouthing off in the dressing room and getting it sorted. Slagging off his players to the press is just ****ing low, i wanted him out as soon as he started doing that.
