well if we dont then we have very little chance of staying up. £35k may sound a lot to me and you but its peanuts in the premiership for a quality goalkeeper. im sure buck will know that and i hope he tells the board that to, anything less and we will have another manager who will get pissed off and leave if he is not given sufficient funds to do his job, thats the reality of the situation.....I'm sure buck has it in hand and we will get our man and he will get the funds to do it...

thing is Dai, all players who started in the premier league were at some point lower league players, they make the step up, and are now premier league players, really there are some god awful players in the premier league, just going through games with no passion, and not worthy of their huge wages, people break down wages to per week, lets not do that

    £5k a week = £260k a year
    £10k a week = £520k a year
    £20k a week = £1.04m a year
    £30k a week = £1.56m a year
    £35k a week = £1.82m a year

you pay these wages, we get relegated, how much will they be on coming down, maybe 50% of the above!

superswan, if you read what i wrote, you'll realise i said it was what i thought, not what you or anyone else thinks. if you don't think the player's i mentioned have enough quality to play in the prem, then so be it, but i myself feel they can.

how much would the other 20 memeber's of the squad be on? plus any younger player's or other's we have that don't make the 25, that's without manager/coaches/back room staff. i think our entire turn over last season was 9 million or thereabouts. 35 grand a week is way to much for us to start paying now, maybe in a couple of seasons if we can establish ourselves in the prem, around 20 a week for the right guy is more than enough for now.

the other 20 players we would have a budget for anyway. start thinking premiership the wage bill will be around £40 million and that is low for a premiership side, easily affordable now with plenty left over in the bank, its no good you singing " we are premiership..we are premiership and thinking lower league <laugh> get in the spirit of things in the real world, we have reached our goal and now we have to stay here, and around about £40 mill for the season is low and very affordable for us, i know its mind blowing we have never had so much money and some of us cant comprehend how much money we have now got but hey we are with the big boys now and even £40 million for the season is very conservative and one of the lowest that will be in the premiership...

Of course nobody knows if they are or not but players always stand a better chance of making the step up with a current club (team mates and a style of play they know) than they do by moving on.

And no we will not and should not be paying anyone £35k a week. We all know where you stand on wanting us to spend every penny we have Dai, we've heard it for years and you've overestimated what has been needed to be spent every single time.

To even think of spending £40 million on wages is ridiculous.
Last years wage bill was £8 mil we can double that to £16 add some quality on good wages would bring the wage budget to around £24.
Our new budget is still needed to buy the quality players in the first place.
Just cos you got it don't mean you've got to spend it!

Buck is quoted this morning as saying we are an attractive proposition to players and agents because players come here and develop. To me that indicates we are after up and coming players who want to improve make a name for themselves and then earn bigger contracts, whether with us or elsewhere.
It doesn't state in the PL rules you have to spend every penny in the bank, and more, to survive or thrive.
Or neighbours up the road are proving the old adage of spend in haste repent at leisure.financial problems, player exodus, manager and backroom upheaval, after a season of ending in play offs. Greed is a dangerous thing.

£40m would be our entire budget this year from tv rights, the rest of the £90m will be spread out over 4 years should we go down, it would be madness to spend anywhere near that on wages, and the board will never endorse it, I feel that we will spend £15m-£20m this season at the very maximum, and that is for the entire team

Got to agree with jager.Lets see how we go with a few additions(df gk)but we cant afford to splash the cash too much.Lets remember where we have come from AND remember where we almost were.I for one am confident BR will know how far away we are when the season starts

    Exactly.

Take our £8m from last year, make that £10m once you have increases for the players/staff we already have due to promotion bonuses.

Take £10-15m we should be looking to invest back into the club structure as a priority (training/youth etc.) and a bare minimum.

    That's £25m of the £40m done already.

£3m for Graham, probably another £5-7m on 3 other players plus £2m to pay them £10-20k a week and you're left with only a couple of million in hand.

Sure we could forgoe the investment bit but that is short term thinking.

Swansea City can search abroad ... players in Africa .. specially in Egypt and South Africa .. They have strong National leagues with a lot of quality players with relatively low prices , I roughly recommend Egypt's HOSNY and South Africa's TSHABALALA and KHUNE..

Nothing wrong with bringing in an old head in or two to steady the ship when we go to the show. You just need to find the right player with the desire and hunger at the right price. More chance Swansea will buy young/hungry/cheap and then loan in the experienced guys in, so as to not destabilise their wage structure (assuming no stupid Priskin type contracts!). I expect to see a few signings over the next 3 weeks but the experienced loans will come in late in the transfer window, when Brendan knows what he has got.
