Is going back out on loan to Woking after failing to score in 5 appearances in League 2 for Carlisle. Obviously the new manager there doesnt rate him.
Is he another over-rated young striker we've had, or a victim of not being given a fair crack of the whip?

I saw him a play a few times for Woking on the box last season, and i have to say from that eveidence, is that he doesn't seem good enough for a top championship side. I think in time he will be quite prolific in leagues 1 and 2, but not in the championship (ala Bowditch)

Lets hope he doesn't lose his head and hopefully he keeps plugging away.

I think he needs to be given a chance here with us, I would rather have Jack Marriott on our bench than Connor Sammon!

Nothing against Connor just think we should be giving more of our home grown youngsters the chance, I also thought that not having enough young talent in the 1st team that had come through our Academy was one of the stumbling blocks for CAT 1.

I agree that it's nice to see 'home grown' players in the team but that said if Marriot was ready for championship football he would have been at class above at league2 level, i think loan spells are chances to impress and prove yourself.

As for missing out on Cat1 I think it was more to do with trying to keep the big clubs happy that they have another advantage over the lower league clubs......

dont think it has anything to do with the change of manager at Carlisle. Reports suggested he was coming back before their changes due to him not impressing

" I think he needs to be given a chance here with us, I would rather have Jack Marriott on our bench than Connor Sammon! "

Based on Sammon doing something productive last game, and Marriott achieving nothing at both Gillingham/ Carlisle I think I'd rather have Sammon in our first team!

I think his size and the type of player he is probs doesn't do him a great deal of favours for him

But I think like alot of youngsters and players they just need to be given a chance and then supported. Mick is particularly good with this with certain players but not with others. I mean we probs have one of the least talented sides we've had here in years but the players are showing some good form because selection is fairly consistent and the manager backs his players. The consistency gives you a chance to find form. I mean Westlake and Richards weren't the best players but they were given a chance and did well for us.

I think like alot of youngsters you've got to give them a good run to see the best of a player and more often than not they actually step up to the plate. Look at Keane we actuallyhad some talented players particularly upfront but noone ever showed any sort of form partly due to the inepnitude of our midfield but also because it was a different strikeforce every match, players can't find any consistency like that

And who says Town fans aren't fickle, based on one half decent performance you would rather have a loanee here than a young one of our own.....oh dear!

You did not mention his spell at Woking!

Agree with Hoppers here. Sammon has a whole career of being a non scoring striker behind him. We have a player who apparently has massive potential. Surely he is worthy of a slot in the squad. He may not make it here but if you never give him a chance you will never know (cough Rhodes cough)

Sorry guys I'd rather have Connor Sammon than Marriott all day long - Not to say I think Marriott is a write off and I don't rate him, I do.

I don't get this " loanee v one of our own " point at all - I'm going by thinking at present Sammon is the better player!

That said, I'd rather have Marriott than Banj as 4th choice striker....!

Not sure I understand what this word chance means in this context, surely Marriott and every Ipswich player has a chance every time they turn up for work, he would have been assessed against first team players in practice, if he didn't show up well in this less hostile environment, then possibly the thinking might have been he's not ready, or never will be ready for the first team.

Sammon is never going to win prizes for his level of skill, or top any goalscoring list, but Marriott could never have done a job like Sammon did against Wigan, their players must have been thinking he was a real pain, with his non stop effort, and nuisance value

Im with Westy on this, if Marriot was that good, he would be a regular by now, yes he scored loads at Woking but maybe thats because he found his level!!

Oh dear, the lad has just turned twenty, nobody realistically would expect him to be a regular starter, anymore than Sammon is, what I would like to see is him used on the bench ahead of journeymen loanees, then he may develope into the striker we all crave for.

Nah sorry, aint gonna hapoen!! At twenty years of age you should be there and position cemented, not good enough, move on!!
Better, younger strikers out there, time to let him go and concentrate on developing the next crop!!

Crikey Spanish, we agree on something :)

Marriott is a talent sure - ( nd scored again yesterday ) :) but he isn't going to play 1 minute for the first team at present, so surely getting him out on loan is the most sensible thing to do !?

We have 11 midfield options......... ( so we could well play 4-5-1 ) and he isn't going to displace Murphy/ McGoldrick.

After this loan spell, which will hopefully be successful he needs to start banging them in, either in League 2/League 1 before I'm going to be calling for his inclusion in the first team squad. I'm not writing him off, he's 20 for goodness sake and is a good talent, I just think he's far better off out on loan at present.

Going out on loan is an opportunity to impress and make a claim for a chance, I'll not write him off just yet as players develop at different rates and peak at different ages so we should stick with him. Imo

Exactly he's only 20 and certainly has a career in the football league ahead of him, what tier is yet to be determined!
