I shall be glued To the TV golf feud Between those from across the pond, And Europe, once more As Ryder Cup war Will see if those yanks can respond They were no match Last time on their patch When Europe romped home easily, Gleneagles this year Could bring no more cheer If our guys, led by McGinley... ...are raring to go At this golfing show The greatest on earth in my view, As man versus man And clan versus clan With each shot, try to turn the screw It opens today Tomorrow the play Will start in earnest, with a bang, Then till Sunday night No let up of fight From the US or EU gang. I really can´t wait, this is far and away the best biennial sporting treat there is. Enjoy yourselves while I´m away. all the best rbf
Totally agree fella, absolutely love the Ryder Cup and for me it's the best sporting event of the year as well. Medinah was simply incredible, sporting theatre at it's very, very best. Been loving all the build up and I'm actually starting to get a bit nervous - how ridiculous as I'll only be watching it on the box! Come on Europe, let's wipe the floor with the yanks again!
Hopefully you get full coverage there, Munky, we certainly get to see every shot here, and I´ll be giving Thomas Bjørn an extra little cheer, not that this is his first time, but he is getting a bit aged now. Medinah was something very, very special, but they´re all unique in their own ways - it´s nearly always worth the entry money alone just to watch Poulter coming down the back 9 on Sunday, especially if we´re behind, that man does not know the meaning of ´give up´ or ´lost cause´ - mouth´s watering already!
Great thread and certainly it is my favourite sporting event (every two years Munky!). Drama, theatre, call it what you will, always wonderful to see Europe pulling together.
A truely great event, I think it's the intensity of it all being done in 3 days with the pendulum swinging one-way then another. A world cup, Olympics or any other sporting spectacle cannot compete, we'll at least in the eyes of golfers, her indoors will just complain when she can't watch the antiques roadshow! Bah! P.s. C'mon Europe, let's kick some yank butt!
Good day! - not a great day, but totally absorbing as always, strong comeback by EU after we let it slip in the morning. Great day for most of the rookies (on both sides) not quite so good for some of the more established Ryder Cup´ers. What will tomorrow bring?
As a Liverpool fan, is that? United Scousers of Anfield? Rose and Stenson were awesome, Reed played a blinder for the yanks mind! If I were either capt, not sure I'd of sent out the boys from the mornings final match. Rory will have better days! Great comeback at the death so confidence should there for tomorrow. Bah! P.s. Day one was awesome, bring on day two!
Obviously in the minority here but to be honest I'd rather watch paint dry. Golf, in my opinion, is a waste of a good walk
Couldn't agree more fella. I find it painfully boring both to play and watch. But there are those who enjoy so each to his own ?
Really lookin forward to today's singles although in pessimistic mode I can see it finishing very close at the end. Fancy Rose and Duboisson will come good and Westwood should also come in but most matches are far from clear cut. Hopefully GMac will start the ball rolling at the top but those two rookies have been a revelation. Will Stenson come good with his bad back? So many imponderables, can't wait!
Great looking European line-up for the singles today, not quite so impressed with Tom Watson´s choice though. I think to send the two rookies out first is a huge gamble, especially up against McDowell and Stenson, BUT, if it works then he´ll be lauded as a hero, my bet is, McDowell and Stenson will turn them over. McIlroy - Fowler and Rose - Mahan will be close, and they could conceivably go either way, but a slight advantage to EU I´d say. The next 3 are likely to go to the States, and depending on what sort of mood Garcia is in, that one could too, but 3 of the last 4 I think favour EU, can´t see Poulter losing to Simpson or Westwood losing to Walker, Donaldson - Bradley, Dubuisson - Johnson, both pretty even. Should be a cracking day!
You just beat me to it THURNBY, I´ve got no fear about G- Mac, he´s as tough as nails, and a great ´big occasion´ player, and don´t forget the two American rookies played 36 holes yesterday and were clearly knackered physically and mentally at the end. As I said, I think it´s a huge risk, Watson gambling on them to pick up some early points.
