Stayed up last night and watched the Man. City v Wendies, it was men against infants not boys. How far are we or matter in fact any team in the Championship away from competing with the Premiership teams. First half City were in 2nd gear and the Wendies were running around most of the time chasing shadows, 2nd half was embarrassing, it could have been more!! so where are we upto? do we get promotion and then build again, or take this squad into the Prem and maybe get battered every other week??
With Cellino at the helm, who knows what might happen! Don't worry about it. Let's get into the PL first. Long way to go.
It's huge But a few things reassure me There's only 5 or 6 teams at most who are of that calibre. It will be a lesser challenge to hold our own v mid table and lower prem teams If I understood Darko he said they needed to build a team that could get to the prem and be good enough to stay there. I think Cellino well understands and will make sure we stay there Not sure we'll ever be in the Champions league final with Cellino but securely in the prem, that I can believe
I agree with Whitejock lets get there first I'm sure MC will invest wisely in the squad I would like to think on the lines of Leicester City who have hardly changed their team since promotion giving the lads who got up time to shine and 5-3 against MU is not a bad way of starting things
If by some remote chance the rules changed stipulating that each team has to include at least 5 home grown players we'd more than hold our own. With players like Byram, Cook, Mowatt, Dawson and Charlie Taylor we'd already have a head start
There is a massive divide in class. Look at teams at the bottom of the Prem, and ask how many of your players would get into their starting 11s - Millwall probably only have 2/3 players that would get in Newcastle or QPR's team and only 4 that would get in Burnleys team. Can't imagine any Leeds players would get a start for these clubs!!
Forest ran spuds close as did boro and pool. Both cases championship teams away. City and Chelsea are light years ahead of rest of pl and we know why so no point worrying about the gap between us and them. Between us and the rest is narrowing and that's what matters
FFP will make it harder for clubs to close the gap, I think mourinho was saying the other day that clubs should be docked points etc for not sticking to the rules, easy for him to say after inheriting a team where abrovich spent billions!
Heyup Eire but the spuds and pool had there second string players out, and i blame the English FA for this, parachute payments!!! whats all this bullshit, allowed to swamp teams with no English players at all, there is a lot wrong with our set up in general, IMO
Massive gulf in class and thats why the likes of Stoke, Wigan and West Brom did so well to stay up. Wigan and Bolton and Wolves however after so long up there are showing how tough things get when you drop into this league or worse. When we go up we gotta stay up or fook knows how long it'll be and I don't want to wait another dozen years
Massive gulf in money, that's all it is, Chelski and Man City have bought their success Would love to see how good their managers are with a **** transfer budget
To be fair, Mourinho did win the UEFA Cup and the Champions League with Porto in successive seasons. Doubt their transfer budget was that big!
I don't think it's a case of the gap being massive between the Prem and the Champ, but more like the top 7 or 8 in the Prem and the rest of the Prem along with most of the Championship. Take Leicester for example. Their starting XI isn't completely different to last season by any means and they're more than holding their own. And look at the relegated sides in the Champ this season. They haven't lost that many players and none of them are exactly running away with it, especially Fulham. It's only because Sky spend £50m on players and wages on behalf of loads of tinpot clubs in the Prem that make them look miles ahead. When most of these players are very average and not that much better than what got them promoted. Just my opinion like.
Good point that gets us onto the overpaid pampered premadona players, No wonder clubs look overseas, still does my head in that some average player can be paid 60grand a WEEK!!! Yes 3 million pounds a year.world gone mad.
For the first time in years we have an emerging setup that could establish us back in pl top six. No reason we can't eventually match Everton or spuds. They're in the top six every season virtually. Southampton not doing too bad either
