Is football the only conversation at a football match these days?, my what a boring lot football supporters must be today.
Totally agree. On quite a lot of occasions, a natural drift is interesting and enjoyable, but there are individuals who set out to drift threads, often in the hope it gets actioned so they can then complain, which dsirupts the board further. It's actually quite sad, but hadn't been happening as much of late, but seems to be on its up cycle again. Using this thread as an example, up to now, the vote seems to show people would prefer threads to generally stay on topic. Within this thread is a totally distinct and separate discussion on apples/cider. In my view, it's best all round to move the apple discussion to a thread of its own where both subjects can carry on. Agreed?
Let me know when the other thread's open so that I can get on my CAMRA soapbox and tell you all what proper cider is. Ta. I'm watching Cracker again on ITV3 (they've been repeating it nightly, too late though if you missed out), still brilliant.
A lass at work reckons apple juice is good for stings and sores. I heard her say that every time she gets a prick in her hand, she likes to get it in cider as soon as possible.
I really don't care that much but it it'd be a lot less interesting if threads stayed on topic each time.
I make a lot of cider. I scrumped a load of apples when I was up in Brizzle a couple of weeks ago delivering eldest child back to Uni. There was a tree behind his new house and I thought 'I'm having them'. Juiced them last week. Need about 16lb for a gallon though this will vary depending on juiciness. Pitched the yeast. Zilch. Made a second juice using a few apples someone gave me, to try to force a fermentation. Normally cider ferments with the vigour you get if you chuck phosphorus into a bowl of water. But these ****ing southern apples were having none of it. Bunged in extra nutrient, more yeast, aereated it like crazy and left it. Come home tonight to the satisfying plink plink of an airlock farting CO2. Result. BTW homemade cider tastes nothing like the fizzy, nasty, harsh, orange Satan liquid you buy in the shop. It's still, mellow, ridiculously strong and cheap. Now, remind me again, what's the topic of this thread?
It isn't threads going off topic that annoy me it can be really funny, it's when they just turn into slanging matches and personal attacks. We don't need them.
