The pair of summer signings were two of seven players introduced to the starting line-up in last nightâs League Cup third round clash against Stoke and both impressed, despite Sunderland crashing out of the competition. And Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has confirmed they will keep their place in the side against Swansea - who beat Everton 3-0 to advance to the fourth round last night - as the Black Cats continue their search for a first Premier League win of the campaign. I am a big advocate to drop the JOS and Brown partnership, and bring in Vergini and Coates. I just feel they have more speed and can pass the ball out. The problem with JOS and Brown is they lump the ball up field, which then means we lose possession and they opposition is on the attack. I think that AJ could be dropped for Buckley, and Alvarez on the left. We need some pace and directness, and Jones/Buckley on the right sounds good. Both have pace and will attack.
Two to start against Swansea? Well, it can't be worse than the eleven against Stoke I guess. If we just play Mannone and a striker, we'll see what happens, eh? I like this Poyet guy. He's a real thinker.
I thought Santi was our best player on Tuesday mind! Is Coates injured? A few I spoke to thought he was awful but I thought he did OK. The only "Mistake" he made was when JOS shouted for the ball and he left it for him and then JOS didn't play it so he cleared it! Not his fault in the slightest and he looks like a good footballer. Santi in the centre alongside Wes or JOS as he has been one of our bright sparks this season.
Don't think we can drop Santi - there's a Claus in his contract. Seriously, he's been one of our better players this season, and, what with his recent selection for Argentina, he'll be up for it right now.

I think Jones looked decent made some cracking runs, could be a real asset having a natural in that role. I'd go Santi/Brown CB.
Open to debate that mate, the 'JOS as a shoe in' status questions it. Generally agree, but CB is an area that needs addressing.
He 'looked at' other CB's and brought in Coates ........ I think he'd have signed the Celtic lad if it was possible. I don't like JOS but his leadership outshines his ability, other players trust him for whatever reason ........ I don't. I don't believe either JOS or Wes will be first choice this time next year either.
I hope not mate, as we discussed last week the lack of pace at CB seems to be the only logical reason why we are set up too deep, and that is giving us twice the work to do when we move forward. I think Buckley needs a run with his pace, and although Alvarez & AJ both lack it, PVA will give a burst down the opposite side. We could even hoy Buckley in front of PVA and terrorise folk with pace and overlaps, whilst using the other flank to build up a head of steam and space centrally.
