With the second round of the u-17 world cup underway and our respective countries playing today ( unless you are Scottish, Irish, NI) was wondering what your feel is for the current u-17 crop. I really like the look of our u-17's, we play the ball on the ground, possession, pass and move and have a lot of cultural diversity within the squad. I think the latin influence of the players and that of our Colombian coach shows why this is the best tactics and hopefully gone are the days of the biggest, fastest, and strongest and the new era of skill, technique, vision, etc. We have some exciting young players and one to really watch for is Alessandro Guido #10 for the US today. plays the AM role and is a very smooth player ( Suso like). I hope that we can oust the Germans, but I know they are a strong outfit and should be a cracking game. I hope the England u-17's can make it through and we play each other. Would be good to have a little rematch of the World Cup, see how the grassroots programs might be changing ( our style of play for example), and also to see players like Sterling in action. Just wanting your thoughts on the next crop of players and if they have you anxious/nervous/happy/so-so, etc.
I lived in the US at the end of the 90s and predicted then they'd win the World Cup by 2022 after seeing so many kids in organised training schemes.
Problem is if you are the best, you pay top fees, ODP fees, Super Y fees, etc. Now with Academies starting to pop up, we are getting that "lost" generation of the kids from the streets or that don't have the funds for all of these and get put into academies or some clubs with "scholarship" programs. Plus Claudio Reyna is now in charge of our youth development, not some numpty who never played the game before.
we talking USA and England or the lines ups for both games? I think you can follow it live or get lineups on the fifa website
Don't worry! I thought England were playing the U.S.A until I found out that England are playing Argentina and the U.S.A are playing Germany. I read the article wrong.
I hope they play, am watching the US one now until I get done here in 30. It is raining and the slick pitch is leaving a lot of the passing wayward but both teams starting to get into a groove. Hopefully any of our Liverpool boys have some magic moments lined up for Argentina!
Das Germans just scored, quickly taken corner, free header, US defending hasn't been our teams highlight lately it seems....
Here is a live text link for anyone interested in the England-Argentina game. http://www.fifa.com/live/competitions/u17worldcup/matchday=11/day=1/match=300151816/index.html
Klinnsman and Low need to get a lot of credit for revamping the youth system and bringing in this new style of play. This group play just like the national team, structure and flair. Gong to be tough to get back into this game.
ya, we are playing a little too slow, letting them get back into shape, on top of when we get it forward, not enough support. One of our players , Pelosi, got a red the last game and he was a good connect from the mids to forw. Had some chances but nothing really as clear cut as the Germans atm.
Half-time. England 1-1 Argentina. Padilla got the goal for Argentina and Sterling got the goal for England. Looking at the stats, we've had more shots on target (8 compared to Argentina's 3) and we've had 57% of possession. Let's hope we can keep going in the second-half!
