Well maybe that's because you have higher privileges on this sight as a Mod!..................... Man the chimpanzees are now running the house!........................
He's not got a clue, better he had a word with Mick or brb to sort the farce out, many posters are fed up with the issue that has been left for weeks, so tough if you don't like my approach!................
Or your just a tit at PC's Your tracert btw seems to show a problem on 4 of the hops, maybe that's why YOUR having a problem, and I am not As for browsers, there are many out there who won't think to try another browser. Let me ask you Phil, what browser do you primarily use, and what version? There are plenty out there who are still stuck on IE 6, and moan when they have a problem with using a site.
Take the tin foil hat off there Dragon. It may be happening to many users, it may well happen to me in the near future, it may be something simple as a cookie error where the site is failing to recognise your session ID and saying your logged out when your logged in. Doubt it but who knows, I would hazard a guess at some sort of ddos attack that is flooding the server. But then that would affect me too, which its not. But instead of bitching and moaning, which you seem to be doing quite well, give us some examples of when it happens, what your doing when it happens, try being helpful rather than a hindrance. You see, if you answered my browser question, and others did too, and there is a mix of browsers being used, we can rule out it being a browser issue, see how helpful that question alone can be if its answered properly. But nope, you carry on whining. As someone who runs forusm, I know how much of a pain in the arse it can be when there is a problem, its not as simple as flicking a switch and its fixed. It has to be found first. Could be a faulty drive on the server, a server that Mick won't have physical access too, and as he is with 1and1 hosting like myself, I know first hand what their support is like, utter ****.
The initial problem started with google scanning hundreds of thousands of pages and kicking us all out. The problems were then resolved. I had some techie info from Mick last time (inc poss ddos) around and in general most members probably would not be interested let alone understand the detail involved, so we try to resolve problems as best we can, without over complicated responses, no insults meant by that, but basically what i'm saying is we just try and get on with it. Mick has now gone on holiday, it was shortly after i noticed we had blocked guests, so i assumed Mick had done this to stop the server keeling over. I also assume he actioned any changes remotely. So unless the server goes down and until he comes back from his hols, I will not be bothering him. If guests are blocked Mick will soon want to sort it because as i said earlier it affects all his revenue and this site is not cheap to run by any stretch of imagination. I have a test account i can go into later that helps me mirror normal user mode, I will try and look at it later this evening, to see if i can identify any bigger issues i might be overlooking in supermod mode. Currently i'm not experiencing any problems via laptop or mobile, so not really sure what is going on at this stage. Simple responses from me at this stage would be have you cleared your cookies, have you tried another browser. But i already assume you have already done all this.
there is a problem if people who are logged in and are told that guests are temperately blocked and they must log in or register. even if you try to register you still get the same message so its the fault of not606 at their end and not the fault of any browser or personal laptops or any other means....I have sent mick an e-mail but as he is on holiday then i suppose we will have to put up with the problem until he is back where im sure he will sort the problem out.....
Phill - sorry but you're behaving like a bit of a tool. There's really no need to be so rude. Swanselona is doing his best to answer your points as is brb. It's in nobody's interest to let the site suffer is it? For the record I haven't encountered any probs at all. Perhaps it's all those porn sites you've signed up to - if you're going to complain then have a go at northgowerhunkybears.com
Not necessarily Dai, the site uses cookies, these cookies store information about your login session. These cookies are stored by your browser to keep you logged in. There is a reason why the first port of call for any on-line issues is to clear your cache and cookies. As then it rules out those being at fault. Now I haven't checked how Not606 works as it uses VBulletin, I prefer IPB myself, but there could for example be a login cookie which checks to see your account is logged in, and another with a session ID, if your session ID does not match that of the database stored ID, then it would log you out. Now the site would then request the cookies to be removed as it attempts to log you out, but the browser could be at fault and does not delete the cookie, it then ends up in an endless loop of the site seeing you logged in, session ID not matching, trying to delete cookies (to log you out) and round and round you go. Now I am not saying its as simple as this, its far more complex, but its a place to start. A first port of call to rule things out. Go look for yourself how many cookies this site stores on your browser. Here is mine: please log in to view this image Now when someone asks for browser information, there is a reason, some sites don't work unless you are using Explorer, trust me I have used sites which I have to use IE only. Other sites then don't play ball with IE. It could be the cookie storing is having problems, so again, when asking for browser usage, its merely to rule something out, rather than to say its the cause. If for example you are using IE, and Dragon is using Chrome, it rules out a browser conflict, as its unlikely that both browsers would have the same fault. But instead of answering the simple question, people claim that the browser is not at fault, how do you KNOW its not at fault? IF you KNOW its not at fault, then you must know what IS at fault, so please do share. A great way to find problems is to find something that is common between all those having the problem, as its clearly not happening to everyone, so that can be a reason to suspect its not a site issue, but could be elsewhere. It may still be a site issue, but unless you ask, and get decent responses instead of people claiming they know its not a browser, yet providing no info, you aint going to solve nothing. I have moderated games, forums and the like to know you start at the basics to figure out problems, but its usually made harder by those with as much patience as I have in my little finger. After ruling out something simple as a browser issue, you ask if they can log in at another laptop/pc/phone to see if the issue happens there too. If you can it could still be a cookie storing issue on your current pc/laptop/phone. If not then you can rule that idea out. IF you want it fixed then help find the problem, if not then please give up with the moaning. After all, I personally don't give a toss, the site works fine for me.
Nothing to do with any browser it is the problem at not606 as its not just our board its everywhere. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to resolving problems and i have deleted every catch, cookie from every browser and the fault points straight back to HQ not 606...
See how much more useful it is when you say you have tried these things, not mind readers you know, but to come on and say its not a browser issue is not helpful unless you tell us what you have tried. Have you then tried accessing the site through anoterh means? Another PC, phone?
That made me chuckle, once up there with vB as the forum software of choice sadly no more, I'd go for SMF before IPB
Have you considered that not606 is using a CDN, if so it could be an issue with the CDN not updating after the initial problem, so no matter how often you clear your browser it still won't make a difference if the users affected are pulling data from one of the CDN's, depending on where the actual server is located, those that are having the data pulled from the server directly won't be having a problem. Just a thought.
IPB is about to release its new version, plus I love the community and support on offer with IPB, has a personal feel about it.
