Football hasn't and will never be like that. You don't sit and praise for 3 days when you win and whine for 3 days when you lose.

Football is a game where perfection is not achievable for a full 90 minutes. It's a game where you discuss what went wrong in a game, where you can improve. Even pundits rarely praise, and if they do it's always followed by a "but...". My chemistry teacher once said that you go into every exam with 100% - you lose the marks by giving incorrect answers. Swansea will likely never get 100% in a match, and these forums are here to discuss the way that we lost marks during any match.

If you're expecting and searching for blind praise, you won't get it. There are always things to improve on, and it is those things that will always be discussed. Sometimes some think it's worse than it was, sometimes some think it's better than it was. Let the debate continue.

We played well yesterday, but we still gifted Everton (Eto'o) a clear chance by giving the ball away early in the match, and also we gave them 2 superior number counter attacks by giving the ball away on the half-way line - Everton wasted both opportunities with an offside and a wrong decision. As well as we played, another team on another night may have converted those opportunities. We played well, got the 3-0, are in the next round, but I'm sure Monk will watch the game again and speak to the squad about everything that didn't go right - just as we are and will continue to do.

Any chance we could hand out a coupla bans for those two kids? A perfectly good match thread was utterly derailed by petty squabbling.

I watched on the telly and I thought we looked fantastic. Absorbed the pressure when we needed and took the chances when we had them. Taylor does look a little off the pace, but just about coped. Montero was the perfect nuisance to their left wing. Pleased for Marv taking his chance well.

A big difference was only 10 -15 minutes defending deep in the second half which meant we didn't put the goal at risk as much as in previous games.
Player highlights for me were Jonjo, Jazz Montero and Tremmell all of whom have had limited game time (an excuse oft used for Taylor's leak of ability) or have been dogs*** so far this season. Also Marvin for his goal and contribution if only for a limited spell and Monk for getting the subs right.
The other played as we've come to expect.

Bloody hell BK you do talk some sense sometimes ;)

I agree it's one thing to provoke debate but it seems to me that we have two or three posters here who actually get a kick out of provoking arguments and I think most of us know who they are because at least two I can think of get banned for it from time to time.

It's incredible because we're doing brilliantly in the League, having a bit of a run in a cup and playing some lovely stuff that the has the pundits purring. Sure, Monk will get it wrong from time to time and like I said before he's on a learning curve and we have to be free to point that out without being vilified here when it happens. It doesn't mean we're not behind him and it doesn't mean we're not Swans fans. <ok>

I do get the feeling that there are a few posters from other sites that stir things up here from time to time only to go back and have a laugh at our expense. All very sad really.

I do note that we're not getting much credit for last night in the media that I've seen so far - it's all about that shootout. <doh>

Just my take the day after on last nights game. I Thought we played well in parts, on occassions Ithought Siggy was to far up the field almost as an out and out striker and left carroll and Shelvey a little out numbered. That probably was early on when they were on top. I thought that Taylor was again very very poor. He made a couple of good tackles, but constantly gave the ball away (Taylor you cant pass through men), he again stands to far off his winger and allows them far to much space. I thought he was yet again our worst player last night. Carroll after a good debut against Rotherham looked a little light weight. he did ok but he is no more than cover for me as we have better at our club. I thought Montero was superb and terrorised poor Hibbert. every time he had the ball he looked dangerous, if not a little tired towards the end.
Gomis did ok, he works hard and i think 5 is a little hash if you are giving Taylor 6.5. I think at the moment he is trying to hard to impress when he starts, he doesnt have the presence of Bony but he has got something to offer.

I agree Bob, Tremmel had little to do but stayed alive to the 2 breakways in the second half and played like a sweeper to clear the ball. One other thing I have to say is that I ws never that impressed with Jazz, but played well again last night. Has to now be worth a punt at left back if he can play there.

All in all for me a pretty good performance.

Think PGF missed the part where BK said "If you're expecting and searching for blind praise, you won't get it." :)

I'm very happy with our home grown manager, far better than his predecessor, got us back to winning ways, great game last night, and my best mate Emnes on the score sheet in 60 seconds!...............<cheers>

Give it rest - all he did was make up for throwing the game against Everton in the same cup last season and not screwing up as he did on Saturday.

When Monk wins a major trophy he will have equalled his predecessor. Doing so and finishing above 9th in the Prem and he will have surpassed him (hopefully come May he will have). But what is the point of yet another petty dig at Laudrup?

Montero is going to get us out of a lot of trouble when we are pressed , beats one man on the outside and were on instant attack.Appears to be a great transfer who fits into our way of play .

"But what is the point of yet another petty dig at Laudrup? "

To provoke a reaction, Bob. Sadly it's what some get a kick out of here rather than contributing to decent debate. It's more fun to throw a grenade into a thread, sit back and watch the fun. Phill has been banned a couple of times for it but still does it. And these are apparently grown men we're talking about. <doh>

It's a shame because when they put their minds to it they can actually contribute to the forum and can post some decent points.

Phil - put some thought into it, ditch the daft smileys and you'll be a better poster. You know it makes sense. <ok>
