By my counting there should be at least 6 mins of stoppage time

That would have been a goal if Mertesacker had to cover him.

Has anyone come out with much credit? Sounds like Ospina was partly at fault for the second goal. Apparently Diaby played well. Sounds like Rosicky, Pod probably out of the club at the end of the season if not before. Diaby is out of contract too, unless a miracle happens he'll likely be let go. Coquelin must be up soon as well.

Soton have managed to get the ball out of their defence really well tonight, it's really frustrated our attack as we've not been able to build a head of steam.

Piss poor really, we've only had one real chance in the second half with Alexis. Pass pass pass pass no ****ing end product.

I could think of worse sides to lose to than the Saints. Decent club.

Who is out who would have played?
Monreal, Giroud, that's about it really. To me this shows that the strength in depth just isn't sufficient.

No excuses, beaten fair and square by Southampton, who also created better chances. We ended the game with Alexis, Cazorla, Podolski, Wilshere, OXO, and Rosicky all on the pitch.

Would've been better to have played a full reserve side and lost, instead we lose with a majority of our first team, piss ****ing poor from us, we are so **** sometimes it's unbelievable, no plan B when it's needed.

Oh well, a cup nobody cares for other than the bench players.

Good for the regulars to get a rest when this goes on.

Hardly the majority of our first team. It was a mix of youth and backup players plus Sanchez.

Fair play to Southampton, they played a good game tactically and made sure we couldn't get back into it. Bit unfortunate in the way in which we conceded the goals and we didn't play too badly overall, but it wasn't enough in the end.

Positives, Bellerin had a good game. Diaby did well and got another game under his belt. Hayden and Chambers looked good. Disappointed with Rosicky his passing was wayward and he was poorly disciplined. Campbell was fairly ineffective and Podolski pretty anonymous too.

Good luck to Southampton, I hope they go on to win this comp, I think they've got a really good team and manager.

We had Sanchez, Podolski, Rosicky, OXO, Cazorla, Wilshere, all playing together, and we still lose at home, those players should be more than capable of getting a result at home.

Conceding soft goals is what cost us today. It was an impressive display from most of the youngsters, diaby had a good return game, Campbell looked fired up and ready to play, good performance from him, Sanchez did well too.

Podolski was quiet. He just doesn't do enough in the CF role I don't think.

Rosicky didn't play well enough and gave away a stupid penalty.

Ospina looked like a good all rounder but maybe could of done more for the second goal. A couple of very nice saves from him.

Overall I felt a draw would of been a fair result at 90 minutes, disappointed that we lost this one as I feel the players out there should of been good enough.

Those backup players should be pushing for a first team spot. It shows very clearly that the team picks itself and the strength in depth perhaps isn't as good as we hoped. The lack of first team players shows Wenger doesn't rate the competition and doesn't want to compete for it. Even so, the players who went out, if they wanted to play more games, should have put down a statement. Doesn't sound like that happened.
