Didn't we lose to Ipswich in their record breaking worst ever prem team season? Edit - i may have been thinking Sunderland 02/03 where we gave them 3 of their 19pts
Spurn, Spot on with Ipswich beating us, although it was 2001-02 season. First game at the Lane where Sheringham was sent off and again at their place. Gave them 6 points!!
AH! That was it, it just wasn't there record breaking poor season (although they were still relegated). Its amazing how much damage Spurs have done to me that i can recall these things.
I think that nearly every season we drop points to sides who are in the bottom three or end up relegated! Just from the last few seasons alone the following took points off us: 2013/14 Norwich 2012/13 QPR & Wigan 2011/12 Wolves 2010/11 Blackpool and Birmingham We must be a charity club that always gives to the needy!!
This is one reason Arsenal always finish above us. They are more consistent against the lower sides. Of course that might actually be because Wenger has implemented a very consistent style with no plan B that generally leads to consistent results. Any Spurs manager trying to do something similar gets about half a season before the complaints of 'it's not the Spurs way' or 'he isn't suited to us'.
I think Chelsea took 18 points off the rest of the top 3 last season and still lost to Sunderland when they looked doomed to relegation. City lost to Sunderland in that period too, didn't they? It's not just us but it does feel like it's always us, if that makes sense.
YV, That does make sense. Every team drops points against teams at the foot of the table, just that we seem to do it more often than most! Tottenham are a charity that always helps out the needy 😇
He's looking like a ****ing amateur atm lads. Cant get anything out of the players, cant make effective changes during a game, defensive shambles, no attacking threat, cant communicate.
And he's been in the job for such a long time, too... I wonder what Irvine meant when he was referring to the poisonous atmosphere at WHL?
I wouldn't have been. He was awful and the players hated him. Lloris went from a transfer request to signing a new contract based upon him leaving. That's not a good sign. He still doesn't have a new job. That's another one.
The players hated him, because the club allowed them to hate him. The club failed to back him. Can you imagine man united pkayers coming out in the press slagging van gaal off ? Wouldnt be allowed to happen.
The players hated him because he didn't know what he was doing, wasn't qualified, had no experience and had a massive ego. The most important part of his job was managing players and he simply couldn't do it. He was fine at dealing with youth players and spotting talent. He's crap at tactics, controlling egos and dealing with the media.
He was great with the media, and the reason he couldn't deal with the egos is because the club didnt back him. His tactical nouse can't have been all that bad considering his league record.
There is some mighty big ego's in the current squad. We all talk about our loathing of big time Charles in the current game and How they can sometimes draw their money under false pretences, and the Spurs dressing room is no exception. That Tim Sherwood met these ego maniacs head on, should never be held against him in my opinion. How dare the modern day footballer be told to get his head out of his backside and get on with doing what he is paid to do and go out there and try and bust a gut for the football club and try and win a football match. For sure the guy had his faults and for sure at times the guy dug his own grave with his luck of tactical knowledge, but the main reason the players disliked him, was because he told them some well overdue home truths.
"Why do we have another manager mumbling away in some incomprehensible accent ? " Because we refuse to hire an American.
