I want to keep all Gills board members up todate, with the latest on moving the site forward, so rather than rewrite what has been said by the administrator of the site, please see below... I am paying a guy with the extra revenue generated from advertising to guests to seed the content 'Article' sections. (When I say extra revenue from advertising, I'm making up about 40% of the guy's wage from my own pocket with the hope of maintaining growth and eventually making the money back through further advertising) At the minute I've told him not to worry about getting breaking news, or about producing quality articles - just to get the News sections filled up with a history of news as fast as possible so I can submit our site to Newsnow and Google News - and we look as if we are producing enough content for them to force their developers to put the time and effort into spidering our news stories. Once we are accepted on these news aggregation sites I will instruct him to up the quality. So please get our users to stop lambasting him every time he posts something that's been known for more than two hours, it will look bad whenever the Google or Newsnow guys come to judge the quality of the site and see loads of people telling the authors to **** off. In terms of the plans when we are on Newsnow and Google News. I am going to put a button on the forum saying 'Report Breaking News' which will allow you or anyone else to send the News Team whatever News is breaking so they can do a quick write up and be one of the first to market on these news aggregation sites. At this point I want the moderators to merge the existing Threads on the subject with the newly created 'official' Not606 News Story. This way when we get the thousands of people clicking from Google News and News Now on the latest Sunderland scandal they will see the discussion taking place below the article and sign up to join in. It's crazy enough to work. .......................................................................................................... brb
As the mod for this board, it is sometimes difficult to gage people's opinion on managing the board threads. Now you may think, there is no need to manage any of the threads, which is fair enough and I will respect that. Other's may find that to many threads on one particular topic needs to be managed. Now this is not aimed at anyone, everyone is entitled to post what they like, however, take Kedwell as an example, there has been numerous threads on the topic, in a 10 minute spell, three threads on Kedwell were created! Now the options are for me to do nothing or alternatively to merge threads. Merging threads does not delete or change timings of posts etc, however, it does merge all selected threads in to just one selected thread. Can I therefore please have your voted opinion above, for me to be able to make a more informative judgement. thanks brb
Sorry everyone, I forgot to make the voters names public, can you please also state what vote you have cast.
I hasten to state I have no intention of merging anyone's varied posts or opinions <phew!>. This vote is solely on excessive threads on exactly the same topic.
That would be unfair LOL, I don't start as many threads as I used to, There is no need to merge all mine when they are all on different subjects.
I would say only merge them when they are exact the same not if they are different things about a certain person, also only merge if they are all in the same day not like the day before as it is not as recent. Hope I don't come across like I am lecturing.
Currently of 7 votes it is 100% to merge. If this trend continues, I will have to set myself a few basic rules on how to initially manage this... 1. I will not merge any threads created today (to avoid upsetting people). 2. If a merge thread is deemed appropriate, I will attempt to find the earliest timed thread after today on any given topic, giving that author the credit in a merged thread. 3. Please note that the not606 news team, also at a later date will require threads on a given topic to be merged for anything that is submitted to be picked up by newsnow or google spiders. 4. Everyone also needs to help by self moderating themselves and checking what other board members have already created on their given topic. 5. Merged threads will not be restricted to one day but may be over several days (excluding today). 6. Lastly if you are unhappy that I have merged a thread, that you felt was on a different topic, you will need to send me a PM (private message) stating specifically why. I will then make a judgement from that for future reference but WILL NOT de-merge the thread. Please note my personal message board is turned off, I now only accept private messages.
