5.05 Winter Spice 5-1

This horse has showed definite promise in races this year without ever getting his head in front. Were this horse to have gone through the whole season without winning I feel the owners could feel quite hard done by as there are horses with much less ability winning races. If we go back to his last race here the horses immediately in front and behind have franked the form.

The easy winner Deauville Dancer was getting 3lb from Winter Spice and beat him by 7 lengths. This horse went on to win his next two races, his last from 80 meaning it will likely be running from 85 when next out.

The second Taws received 6lb from WS and finished 1 length in front. Taws then won from 66, came second off of 73 and now runs from 75.

The fourth has yet to run since.

The fifth Cinnilla who finished 3.5 lengths behind WS from level weights is perhaps th most impressive as has since won a by 9 lengths and then went in again under a penalty by 3 lengths, so will likely be looking at a mark of 82.

Winter Spice runs tomorrow from 69 and I think has a cracking chance at 5-1.

Morning, pilgrims. Hope everyone well. And whilst I’m dishing out felicitations I hope everyone’s moles, insiders and contacts are in top form as well. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more...

Not tipping anything today so there is no need for the regular readers to rush for one of those betting slips but the most interesting runner has out today has to be DARK SWAN (2.50 Lingers Park) owned by Prince Charlie and the forum’s favourite Royal, dear old Princess Camilla. Apparently, the filly with the lovely name (Dark Swan that is. Although come to think of it Princess Camilla is a lovely name for a filly as well) was a gift to them from the Qatari Royal Family. Lovely sentiments and hopefully the old Qatari’s will extend similar generosity to me, and all other forum members, in the not too distant future. I see though that Dark Swan is trained by that terrible old rogue, Prescott. Cor blimey, I hope he doesn’t take any liberties with this horse! Will Dark Swan win though?!? She’s very well bred as the dam is a half sister to an Arc winner but this does look very tough on debut. One to watch for the future though.

The Prescott runner who does leap off the page and jab you in the eye today though is HIGH SECRET in the ‘lucky last’ ‘ooooooooooooooop’ at Newcastle (6.50). He’s on 52 after showing very little in 3 maidens last term but today, upped half a mile, expect to see a totally different horse if I know that old rogue. The money seems to be down on High Secret as well. At the time of scribing backed into a best priced, 15/8.

    Good luck, troops.

If current weather conditions continue for the next fortnight or so they may try to win the ‘Ces’ with him before they even entertain any thoughts of the NH sphere. Saddler’s Rock has fallen in the handicap 8 lbs since the start of 2014 to a not that excessive looking 104.

    3.45 Noble Storm

A bit of a dodgepot race, albeit good dodgepots, with Kingsgate Native on the decline and Green Door finding lesser rated horses too good in recent races. The door is wide open for anything to come and win this race and I think Noble Storm has a very good chance for G Gibbons. He looks the pace angle in the race (over Tangerine Trees who seems to have lost a bit of early speed) and I think he can get the best position on track and prove difficult to pass. He is a fair enough price too, and is a small win bet.

Morning Sir Barney, funny you should say that, had a nasty one 'removed' yesterday. Bit of a nuisance as it's Bierfest time. Nevermind, will be fit and raring to go by the weekend, no doubt. Really like the name of your first hoss advice, will have a bit on it at Lingers (Lingers? We never called it that in Surrey).

Have a successful day everyone! <ok>

I think Kingsgate Native is a good thing today, 2nd in 2 group 3's this year and 3rd in a group 2. Not a great run at Doncaster last time but missed the kick, think today is a great opportunity to get one on the board for 2014 - nice bet at 7/4

 Guess you and SBC are right, but damned if I can remember it being called that. Went there many times in the distant past! Even had the occasional winner too. Martinet (g. by Fastnet Rock - Martha (Chanteur II) so my old Timeform tells me) was one (6/1, I think it was, in the first), my pockets were really stuffed with the ready so I did an early 'bunk' into the train home! Timeform and Phil Bull no doubt put me onto the winner! Great days!

It’s being reported that this Beverley heat may be Kingsagte Native’s final race.

Nice for him to bow out with a win if it is his last race, got a bit messy in the final furlong but no doubt about the winner

Good call City Hull, I must admit I had thought him out of love with the game but he showed although not able to fight it out at the level he did in his prime that he is still a very decent horse.

Took a long look at that Moscato last night uncle. Decided the odds were too skimpy for my current situation. Couldn't rate it a banker but it was the only one I considered.
