Do you mean I'm over critical? I'm not critical of failure at all if I can see that someone is trying their best....on my 1st post on this thread I said I was not "criticising Monk", which is obviously wrong I am criticising Monk. A more accurate statement for me to have made would have been "I am not holding him responsible for us losing the game" (as once Bony was sent off we were up against it and Monk was up against it as a manager....as I've said, no matter what he did the odds were in Southampton's favour). Hopefully I am not being too harsh though by saying he deserves a little criticism for a failure to respond appropriately to the circumstances. If he responds the same way to similar circumstances in future with similar results he will deserve more criticism. If he shows he has learned a lesson on Saturday he will deserve praise I am not the kind of father who believes blowing smoke up my son's arse telling him everything he does is wonderful regardless of his "achievements" or the negative consequences of his actions is the right way to go, no. Praising him when he shows he is trying his best, or when he learns an important lesson, or when he is kind and patient with others.....and ignoring or indicating my displeasure for negative behaviour or laziness seems to have worked so far as he is not yet 5 but is way ahead of his peers in reception class in terms of numeracy and literacy. He counts to 100, he also reads newspaper headlines and can point out the continents, oceans and the more memorable countries on a map when some of his mates can't count to 10 or recognise their letters yet. I see in the 'I' today the headline "Parenting crisis: half of five-year-olds not ready for school" it goes on to say that there's a direct correlation between the no. of children who can't communicate well, hold a pencil, count, read etc. and where they live (poorer areas of the country). I can tell you that the children going to school with my son, in as wealthy an area as you can get in South Wales, also (in large part) struggle to hold a pencil / recite the alphabet / count / add up or read 3 letter words. Poverty is an excuse. In Greece I am yet to come across a school that has the equivalent of a 'Sure Start' unit, or looks modern and stocked with IT equipment etc. I'm thinking of an area I regularly go in South West Crete. Most people work on farms, or in restaurants and bars...the only wealth on show is that of some of the Northern European tourists. The schools I have noticed tend to be run down buildings, literally falling apart! Yet most Greek people I have ever met speak several languages, have at least 1 degree and are well informed about the World they live in. IMO falling standards in this country is down to the direction our culture has gone in, the worship of money and celebrity, and the way people seem to parent and teach these days. How is anyone attempting to develop/learn ever supposed to get to where they need to go quickly without someone pointing out..."that's wrong, that's good, that's excellent....now go and look at this" etc. All around me I see praise being heaped on children (and people) who have merely achieved the minimum standard, so the praise becomes meaningless. A little criticism is essential.
Monk actually deserves more than a little criticism Terror. Playing Gomis up front and not sitting so deep may or may not have got us something from the game that's true, but Monk's tactics and subs were wrong - it's obvious. You have to give the opposition something to think about to ease the pressure and he didn't do that. But like most people I think Bony has to shoulder most of the blame and I'd be surprised if he hasn't already apologised to his team mates.
here's the link for that match http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/league_cup/8205360.stm. not a good example. we were a goal down after 13 minutes. used all our subs, then Dobbie equalised after 78 minutes. the other two red cards came at minutes 115 and 116 of over time after Scunthorpe scored on a penalty. Sousa didnt have any choice in how he was going to play short handed except reorganize what he had on the field.
To summarize this great post ... we didn't play the Swansea way of keeping possession - we abandoned it. Watched the second half again last night. For example, whenever Shelvey had the ball he lumped it forward to nobody or to Sig who tried hard but had no clue. A number of times Shelvey could have played a short pass, or passed back to Fab to retain possession a little longer and consume time. We didn;t play smart and we didn't play to what should be our core strength - passing and keeping the ball. Isn't that the Swansea way? Terror's idea of subbing on Carroll and Jazz would have addressed that.
Discussing last Saturday's game on a Tuesday is pathetic? Nah. Your contribution is pathetic. If it's annoying you that this is the only active thread why not start a new one? If it's annoying you because of the arguments being expressed why not argue your own point of view? If it is the individual posters that are annoying you why not stay silent rather than look to cause an argument? There's a game on tonight why not start a thread about it?
Discuss what you want...do another 3 days of "Subgate " , fill your boots , must have been something els3 that happened to discuss ,
It's been 3 days because I didn't post anything on the game until Sunday night and have been responding to aswandam and others through Monday and this morning.....you know, having a conversation about the match on the match thread. I will discuss whatever I want, the topic of discussion or people's level of contribution to this forum is not for you to decide. What I wish to discuss has f** all to do with you. Got it? If there's "something els3 that happened to discuss" why aren't you or PGF discussing it on a relevant thread?
Do you want to point me to this thread PGF? Just had a quick look at your thread titles and the only one I can remember contributing to is the Fans Forum one. In which I offered no opinions, I just posted up some info from another source. Oh, and by the way PGF, this is the match thread started by me where I and others have been discussing the match. If you don't want to discuss the match f** off my thread with your whingeing you f**ing hypocrite. I await your response with a link to one of your threads....
Sorry terror, was speaking about the last 3 days , in general . If you werent posting ....people could talk about what a HUGE game Williams had , or how Fernandez is coming around very well , or how fabulous Fabianski and Ki were . Or whats up with Bonys out of character tackles ... no , 3 days about an unused sub , or the , apparently, wrong players taken off and replaced with the wrong players . If we held for a point , people would be calling Monk's changes brilliant lol .. sorry for my post that appeared to be at you , wasnt really meant that way .. cheers
No worries but here's a thought....why didn't you post some of that stuff? Maybe the discussion would have moved on already.
