I would not use that as a parallel, but a team of Manchester United's "former" calibre would not concede five goals in that manner. Evans and Blackett are not Ferdinand and Vidic, change that Mr Gaal .
'his substitutions so far have been spot on' Forget about Fleetwood - His substitutions for the Orient game were bizarre. Remember - El Abd on, Ayling to midfield and Jet on for 30 seconds of injury time. I know - even you give up. I do give him great credit for signings like Smith, Freeman and Abraham, but Cotterill's a lucky boy to have, as we are, Steve Lansdown. 'Wagstaff, last season he played 45 games' and we bumped along most of the season. We're top so far, how many has he started ? SOD signed the useless tw*t and Einstein won't offer him another contract.
"but a team of Manchester United's "former" calibre would not concede five goals in that manner" Chelsea, Southanpton. Newcastle Man city and West Brom have all put 5 goals past them in the premier league, 'in their former calibre"
I was asked for an assessment. Ferdinand and Vidic were a superb defensive pairing, and no they would not concede goals in "that" manner due to their ability and professionalism. Evans and Blackett are quite simply nowhere near as good. An assessment I would expect would be widely agreed with.
I know he is at a different club with different quality players around him, but would one say that Ferdinand is anywhere near a success at QPR? He was out of position for both Stoke goals?
Ferdinand was a good player but never as good as folk said he was. A) he played in the easiest position to play on a football field - alongside a dominant Centre Half. B) was lucky to have played with great central defenders who attacked the ball - Vidic and Terry. Loved how MOD pundits gave him stick the other week when he lost his 'man' against Hull for their goal. This was after Rio had given a 'masterclass' to them in Brazil on how to mark in the box. Another problem for Rio is he ain't the bravest and always doing the cardinal sin - turns his back on the ball.
Rp, you come across as quite childish at times, i haven't saw to much wrong with Sc subs to be honest, he may have shut up shop at times, but you tell me what manager doesn't, we maybe could have got more points if he would have took a more attacking option, but then again, it could have gone the other way, i'm very happy to be unbeaten after 9 games, so i think are most city fans (apart from you), the vast majority of city supporters are over the moon at what SC has achieved since he's been here, you being the exception, you say its because of SL, but the manager still has to get the right players in, and even you gave him a bit of credit for that (wow), oh, i forgot, apart from Elliot who we all seem to rate apart from you.
'Banksy, some people have short memories, when it suits'. And some just evade the question. AD - await your thoughts. Forget his 'questionable' substitutions at Fleetwood. 'His substitutions for the Orient game were bizarre. El Abd on, Ayling to midfield and Jet on for 30 seconds of injury time' Or do you still think his substitutions have been 'spot on'.
Well when El Abd came on, played quite well, Ayling to midfield, in my opinion a professional footballer should be able to play anywhere (you should know that), Jet on for 30sec, that's about his limit at the moment, even scored a goal coming on late, now that's wasn't a bad substitution was it. Substitutions "spot on", by the way did we lose against Orient, no, keep up the good work SC.
'when El Abd came on, played quite well' - don't let facts get in the way of a good story. To make it worse he moved Williams to LB to accommodate El Abd and Ayling to midfield. And this was a game well publicised by Cotterill - 'we'll be going all out to win'. Joke. 'Jet on for 30sec, that's about his limit at the moment' - Your other comments about JET tell me you have a down on him. However your comment (Wagstaff) 'may not have Jets ability but at least gives 100%'. Check out stats from last year. How many goals and assists did JET achieve ? Have a laugh - check out Wagstaff's. At least Cotterill is not picking Wagstaff to start and when he comes on he's not playing him wide. If Wagstaff has anything, it's in the box. Last season Wagstaff ran and and ran - to nowhere. Jet might jog but gets there 100 times quicker. It's called ability.
Rp, love to see my comments where i have a down on Jet. "Last season Wagstaff ran and ran to nowhere", but helped keep us in Div1 by giving 100%. Jet might jog, that's probably why he's on the bench.
His talent like a wave broke and rolled back several years ago. I would totally disagree with Redpintt ... It is not easy to play in a position where you can be exposed against class players and look better than good. He is at QPR because he is no longer what he was, the pace is gone, and probably some of the will.
In all honesty I don't think his substitution have been spot on by a long chalk.... and the late substitution really eat's up time? When the 90 mins are up add on the actual "extra miutes" played including the substitution......ref's are guided to play an extra 2 or 3 so why do we get 3 -4 with a substitution? and no injuries! oops pressed wrong button... A substitution should allow for 3 things an injury or a change in game plan like winning 1-0 with 10 mins to go or winning 4-0 with 10 mins to go and playing a fringe player. Do forwards really get tired? usually in 1 half or just over most of the game ! so subs should be wingers or mid field / backs that have been making loads of long runs..not a fast rule but based on energy...
Clifton, respect your opinion. In all probability most pundits would agree with you. I played, along time ago, across the back (except CH) and centre mid(early). Sure I never played against a 'Rooney' but I wasn't Norman Hunter either. I loved dropping off as my CH took everything he could, I picked up the pieces and looked a world beater. But I knew the better player and who did the harder job.
I always found playing striker was the easiest position - although my favourite (when I had pace) was left midfield. As a striker, the worst you can do is miss a sitter or a penalty. In defence, you could score an own goal, let an attacker past you, give away a penalty, put the keeper under pressure with a dodgy back pass - the list is endless! I was fortunate that despite my stature (5 foot 10) I managed to score goals because I trained myself to use both feet. I was **** in the air but made up for it. Shame some of the professionals are one-footed. Any defensive position is the hardest IMHO.
